Which Headlight Bulbs ?

I would just go with the Rings. The Nightbreakers are good, but not an extra £15 good.

Also HIDs are illegal already (the charge would be driving an unroadworthy vehicle), and will soon become a specific part of the 2011/2012 MOT test.

Today I fitted the Ring bulbs after the recommendations here Thanks !Blimey there isnt much room is there !!!!! :crybaby:

The bulbs I removed were Phillips..... So have I replaced one performance bulb with another ? Or are Phillips the OE fitment ?

I hope not cos the old set up was chronic to say the least !!!

Charlie, depends on if they where Philips Xtreme vision bulbs which are 80% brighter. If you do not see much improvment then it can be deemed that the previous owner upgraded the bulbs in your Rav.

Well? have you been out to test them?

Gus

Gus . No Mate. If I'm honest I only drive in darkness on a rare occasion. But as I've said the lights were absolutely hopeless !!

Forgot you may be doing these Charlie, so too late to pass on Anchorman tip of unclipping the screenwash bottle neck and bending it out of the way of the offside bulb....worked for me, and the corrugated plastic moved with ease. Maybe help somebody else.....

These +xx% lights are achieved by two or three simple modifications,

1) top quality filaments, pretty much nailed that technology over the last 100 years

2) very pure halogen gasses, normally with a drop of Argon and xenon I think, but not sure.

3) wafer thin glass to maximise light transfer.

Over time the filament will make micro-deposits (I think of carbon) on the inside of the glass, reducing the transmitted light output. They may or may not have been good Philips bulbs, but they won't be as bright as brand new Ring ones.

*If memory serves me correctly

Yes I did remove the push stud clip and take the screen wash tube out. I also removed the plastic trim tray that goes all the way round the front of the front flitch plate. Perhaps its because I have hands like shovels ??...

I find it funny you say your previous bulbs are crap. I find the lights in the Rav superb. Both the Ravs I've had have been the same and both have been brilliant.

I swapped mine as I thought the standard lights were pants compared to our previous car (X-Trail with xenon lights) and my S2000 has xenon's as standard.

Also, I have swapped the sidelights for high power LED bulbs which are a huge improvement over the standard bulbs.

Which type exactly are the side light bulbs Mate ?? I know its here somewhere ........

Weblers honestly My lights were woefull ! I just hope the bulbs I've fitted help and that the Phillips bulbs I took out were the ordinary type !!!

Click on the link (led bulbs) in my post mate. They are a straight swap for the standard bulbs - same fitment -501's. loads of places sells these kind of bulbs but dont buy a cheap set like I did initially, they lasted no more than a few weeks. Spend a tenner & get some good ones
