Hey folks,

I have had a look through the forum and couldnt find the answer I was looking for so I have posted this - I apoligise in advance if this has already been answered and I missed it!!

I am looking to put new tyres on my RAV 4. It's a 2004 with 235/60R16 tyres.

With the winter coming up I have been looking at Yokohama Geolanders A/T-S G012. Has anyone had any experience with these tyres...Good or Bad - especially road noise!!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club mate..

This has been discussed a bit in the past. Rambler is the man for the job as he has been using them for years....

See this thread (LINK) where he talks about them.

Cheers

That is not a winter tyre though is it? More of an all terrain tyre

What purpose do you want it for?

Personally Ive never been a fan of the Yokohamas (on any car).

Ive been running Vredestein Wintrac Extremes since last year (I managed to get six so didnt mind keeping them on over the summer this year).

Very good tyre, wear very very well for a M&S tyre and barely anymore noise than std. tyres.

Also really good in deep standing water too.

Had them on my old Rav4.1 Giant too, drove out of this with no issues at all.

Prior to the Yokohamas, I had Hankook Ventus S/T's which for a med. budget tyre very good and still had a M&S rating too.

If I was to pick anything wrong with them, they were quite firm sidewalls / load index - which I didnt mind as they reduced bodyroll but did feel the bumps / road surface changes a bit more.

Thanks for the information guys.

I would be using the tyres as all-rounders. A bit more grip in the winter time but also my job takes me into a lot of fields - with the lack of sunshine this year it makes for a lot of wet fields - so I want something that will be good in that department as well but also still be able to use them on the roads without to much extra road noise fuel consumption

Aaron I had Wintrac Extremes on my last car and I have to agree with you they are a very good tyre, probably the best I have used. I have been thinking about putting these on as well...just thought with it being a winter tyre it might not last as long!!

a colleague of mine swears by Cooper Discoverer ATR as an excellent 70/30 tyre. Good off road grip, great in snow, but isn't knobbly so not bad for road noise..

Note, however he drives a Nivara not a Rav..

I would agree with you on that on any other winter tyre I have used, but I can honestly say, I left them on right through this year (done around 15k miles this year) and wearing fine and even. I have seen so many winter tyres that are worn on the outer edges in no time at all.

Vredesein do put a lot of effort into their tyres, had the Ultrac Sessantas on my Scooby and the Quadtracs (all season tyre) on the front of the other half Focus and that got through some pretty heavy snow too. The Quatracs have a harder compound outer edge for less wear but still the fine cut grooves for snow in middle and inner edge. The Sportracs dissapointed me a bit though, wore out quite quickly.

Im not a salesman for Vredestein, just a bit of a geek when it comes to tyres.

Murray. How are You finding supply of the Vredestiens ?? I'm am still awaiting the delivery of a new set of 18 wheels shod with Wintrac Extreme 4s. At the point order I was told the tyres were the only set of four 235/55/18 s in Europe and they would be Mine if I placed the order which I did.. Since then I have had excuse after excuse !!!

I hope You are more successful than I have been and suggest You pay only for a Physical set and not for some on a promise !! Europe now has a major shortage of Winter tyres !!!!

Wee Charlie.

Still have good tread....these have done about 25'000 miles now,the wear is very even across the tyre.Very little road noise..no different to a road tyre for me.
