Hi All,

Just bought a 2005 D4D Previa (70k miles). I have just noticed a Whining sound which happens as soon as the car starts and increases when

you accelerate....any ideas wot it could be.

Also it takes about 25 minutes of driving before the temp gauge gets halfway...is this normal and if not could it be the thermostat sticking open

or something else.

Many Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If the whine is there at standstill, and increasing when revving the engine, look the engine, i.e everything before (and including) the clutch. (belts, alternator, a/c compressor, etc.)

If the whine only presents itself in motion, and increasing with speed, look at transmission, bearings, wheels/tyres.

Hard to diagnose from your description.

Even for a diesel 25 mins seems like a long time to get to operating temp. So the thermostat may indeed be stuck in the open position.
