Excuse starting new topic....just wanted to make sure all you whom which tried to help see this and thanks received.

Mr T (Arnold at Bishopbriggs)took in at very short notice, diagnostificated, found that 2 senders had lost their "memory link" to TPMS ecu, reprogrammed them, and sent me off having paid no pennies....a happy chappy. If it ever throws up in tantrums again, ah'm going for a pint in Wardude's local.....

Usual extra gratitudinals to our resident trainee software person, shcm.....magic spam, mate.

BLUEVORTEX : BIN THESE PLONKERS AT INVERNESS....BED AND BREAKFAST FREE IN GLESGA....COME ON DOWN TO ARNIE'S BISHOPBRIGGS.

Thanks again all for input.

Yeah iam also glad of Briggs service. Thats who managed to get me 4 x (prestige refurbed) toyota alloys & when fitting also found corroded aluminium tyre valves replaced them via toyota customer relations too I only paid for 1hr labour & two alloys. Total £307 for the four alloys & two valves plus fitting. So they must of had ear of Mr toyota.

Thanks Mr Clark (bishopbriggs)

Yer always welcome Kev............I can take the trainee bit, but I shall take exception to the software reference ;). (ultimate hardware engineer insult  :D ).

Out of curiosity, do you still have the 5 wheels on the vehicle?

Trying to translate the dealer speak, it sounds like the ECU corrupted part of its EEPROM (E^2) (or it may emulate an EEPROM with a flash memory sector). It really shouldn't happen, so keep an eye on it (but then I suspect it may be obvious if it fails again ).

Then again, I've absolutely never ever seen "in the field" production ECU software with a bug that corrupted its E^2 under certain conditions. Honest!

Yep can't beat proper diag................luv my sensors saved at least 1 tyre,no ill effects to steering but well down on pressure when i could be ubikd to pull over & check if it was telling porkies or the truth,,,keep the pink wire

Trust shcm to ask that sensible stuff...."are all 5 wheels still on vehicle..."

YES INDEEDY muckeroony, and furthermore, I expressly asked the Toyota Tech if indeed the widgetry can take on five sender units, and to give me no bovine waste.....

He answered totally in the affirmative,"aye Kev", but somehow, I still believe Ormi re only 4....why would a car have 5 wheels for a computer to recognise...? (....and why do ah know some wag will have an answer to that question?)

American market?

That V6 import which was on Autotrader about this time last year had the TPMS and spare wheel on the door.

If only it were RHD...

Kev...my rav has 4 supplied from new & 1 eBay used special i got off some kind chap from these forums, ive had no probs in or off or around the car in the TPS dept at all.if the ecu for tyre info will allow more than 4 programmed at once ( as i know most french stuff will ) then maybe its just a glitch that you have had probs & not the fact that you have more than 4 set up for your Rav......or has mr T got the narks on cos you have binned the Bridgestones :yahoo:

Onl time will tell, Steve min, if I have a permanent glitch in mine, but must say Mr T totally un-narked since I bought the tyres from him, at a slight premium. That way, should anything go wrong, I had better acces to "gratis redress"...i.e. nae charge.

Think Marsky got it in wan....the USA market would cover all five tyres for sure.

I've never played with one of Mr T's diag kits, but if this screen representation of Mr T's tester is accurate:

tpmstester.png

then it suggests 5 is OK and it would make sense for the unit to handle 5 (Marsky's spare comment). i.e Set Main tire to 5?

However, a US unit may be slightly different. I'd expect it to operate @ 315MHz rather than 434MHz for a start. A common set of ECU programmable parameters would be sensible though. Haven't I seen a DCAT varient with runflats sold in mainland Europe, that still has a spare on the back? Could have dreamed it?

Above pic also suggests to me it will do more than one set of tyres (2nd Tire), although I bet you need the diag/tester unit to flip it to the alternative set. Again it would make sense - markets with mandatory winter tyres etc.

The only very unlikely thing that did cross my mind was whether the software in the TPMS ECU is only set up to expect 4 sensors, but the diag/tester unit was quite happy to attempt to write IDs for 5 sensors into the ECU.That might lead to some memory corruption in the ECU. It's probably a flight of fancy, so I think it is highly unlikely, as that kind of thing is usually checked for by the software in the ECU and tester. Bugs like that are rare, but not unknown. Also, I really can't see why you'd want a different software version in the ECU like that (i.e. handle 4 wheels only). A car maker/component supplier will usually try to keep things as common as possible.

If anybody thinks I will reply to any of the above in any smart bottomed way, or even attempt at humour, you really don't know me. Suffice it to say, apart from thanks again shcm, is I am relaxed in the certain knowledge that all five wheel sensors are signed in....ah think.....
