Toyota Verso Black Smoke

Hi

When i pull away there seems to be a large trail of black smoke,and the engine management light comes on now and again,it seems to be working ok still thou.

Would be most pleased if someone could help...

The car is a 2007 verso diesel

Hi Mick,

It is possible that your have a clogged EGR valve which is quite common on these engines. It happened to me on my 2007 diesel Verso. One way to tell is that acceleration from a stop may be sluggish.

I took mine to a Toyota main dealer and they ran their diagnostics test which was going to cost £70. They then said the engine had been burning too much fuel and had become damaged so they needed to replace it...which they would do for free under warranty (even though the car was 4 years old). It is a known problem so Toyota seem pretty keen to help loyal customers - depends if this is indeed your problem and whether your dealer is being nice!
