1999 Corolla Steering Wheel Swap

Hi Chaps,

Have searched through the forum and havent' seen the anyone to answer if it is possible to change the standard corolla plastic wheel to a celica gen 7 leather wheel.

In pictures, I want to change this kind of wheel

to something of this kind:

Basically, I have bought the steering wheel already and put it on the car, the only thing that thrills me at the moment is attaching the aigbag. I know that some of the corollas had similar steering wheels, the same as on celicas. I have noticed the connection plugs for airbags are identical. I haven't changed the circular-contact thing by the way, leaving the one from corolla in place.

So the question is - whether I should change any of the connections for the celica airbag on my corolla, or just plug it straight away - because the jack would fit into it. I am really afraid that the airbag would blow, and I would need to get another one, which would be very frustrating

I was driving today without the airbag connection, but the airbag malfunction signal drives me a bit crazy.

thanks everyone that can give me any piece of info!

cheers!

Do the wires colours match?

If not you should get a volt metre on it to test the connections first.

fair enough....

how would I understand which one is a plus and which is a minus on the airbag ?

OK, I have compared the wires, they are identical. So i have checked the wiring on the enter and exit of this circular connection thing (not sure what's the proper name for it) and, surprisingly there seems to be a short circuit :)

So two wires that should feed the airbag initiator are short circuited due to some of the reasons.....Investigating this issue now and will keep you posted

thanks!

Woo-hoo.so just for everybody's record-celica 240 steering wheel fits okay to 1999 corolla with the airbag giving no error.the thing why it was short circuited was a designed anti-fool protection from Toyota engineers.I've sorted that out by putting all back into place and connecting the airbag. The srs light went on for about 6-7 seconds and then turned off. Now my e11 has +20bhp LOL
