All in all a good result and I may even get a loaner Gen 3 Prius or Auris HSD!

Sorry to disillusion you....but you might get an Aygo!......(The normal Toyota courtesy car)

Lol!

He did say they have 12 loan cars of which 6 are small (presumably Aygo & Yaris), 1 Prius, 1 HSD Auris, 1 Verso and i think a few more Aurii. So I might be lucky....you never know!

I was given an Aygo as a loan car when I had my Prius serviced and was pleasantly surprised. I thought about going down to one car between my wife and me but bought a secondhand RAV for my wife to use and for motorway trips and an Aygo Go! for low cost motoring - so far very happy with that decision. Prius was a good car too though

I hope you get your car fixed ok but to be honest I think the main thing is that you and your family were hopefully unhurt. Cars can be replaced!

MS Hasan. Pleased to hear you have got Toyota sorting your car out. I would not trust a non Toyota dealer with a Prius. A lot of Non Toyota dealers would not know how to start a Prius and if the IC was off they may not even think it was a "live" car running on electrics. GC I seem to recall experienced this.

As for your accident, things happen so fast on the motorway. Lets face it the other idiot should not have pulled out on you without looking and indicating. I hope the children are OK and not too shaken up. I am sure Toyota will do a good job on your car.

Chris.

"Drivers overtaking another car (aka "driving happily... in the middle lane") should be constantly aware of the potential need of drivers being overtaken to pull out too."

True but its not always possible for the driver in the middle lane to go anywhere, particularly if lane 3 is very busy and there is no safe room between you and the vehicle in front of you in lane 2.

In many cases people pull out because they don't want to slow down to match the speed of the vehicles ahead of them but they should be prepared to do precisely that rather than trying to force a car on their right to change lanes so they can overtake. It's not a god given right afterall and drivers who bully their way from one lane regardless of the implications it has on other drivers around them are complete ******* idiots who should have the book thrown at them frankly!

The kids are fine thank god, got them checked up at the walk in centre and everything was okay.

Forgot to mention earlier, the Toyota guy gave a very rough off the top of his head estimate of £5k in repairs . I hope its not a write-off :crybaby:

Should be getting a better estimate tomorrow.

Tell them you have to have an automatic.

You should get something decent.

(Unless by some quirk of fate they happen to have an auto aygo handy  )

Indeed, the Auto Aygo is a very capable car

Update:

Dealer's repair quote = £5800 :eek::eek::eek:

Dealer is waiting to hear from insurance company whether they'll authorise the repair or not.

This is seriously starting to look like a write off :crybaby:

Can anybody recommend any good body shops around London where I could get a better quote?

Don't the insurance companies write a vehicle off if the cost of repairs exceeds the cheapest book value? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here? Depending on where you live, I know of a good one near me, used them in the past and they are excellent... toyota approved too!

PM me if you're in Essex...

Depending where you are in London it may be a long way out, but I got good service from Inchcape Ford at Farnborough. In spite of the name they are Toyota approved and I have a certificate that the repairs won't affect any Toyota warranty.

Finally!

After a million emails/phone calls to and fro, Toyota will be picking up the car on Tuesday and an Aviva engineer will go to inspect and decide whether to authorise repair (or not :( )

They will be giving me an auto for the mean time - just hope its not an aygo!

Thanks for your recommendation J&T, I called them up and they will happily give me a quote (& courtesy car) if the dealer falls through.

They've collected the car today.

However, the Yaris Auto they've given me is an absolute piece of garbage! The gear changes are horribly jerky and to be honest, in slow moving traffic i'd say its quite dangerous. The thing over revs like mad and is totally reluctant to move out of 1st gear!

Have since read up on the net and, surprise surprise, most people say to stay well away from this horrible 'semi auto' Multi-Mode transmission on the Yaris :( /Rant

At the point you want to change gear just lift your foot slightly off the throttle, that will stop the jerkyness and over revving

Kingo

+1

When my GF got her auto Yaris, she went for a used 2005 model with the old auto transmission. The new multimode system was not good.

Haha, is that because the car transmission is so bad or are you implying my driving isn't up to scratch? - I'm perfectly fine with the former but certainly not with the latter! lol

Thanks for the tip Kingo, did sort of figure that out myself but its still not a great drive. Maybe I'm just too used to the Prius where putting your foot down literally means 'putting your foot down', whereas here, you have this silly kangaroo style jumping up and down business. This model has been out since 2006, why hasn't the MMT been refined yet? or am I looking the 'refined' unit and the originals were even worse?

I had one of the earlier Yaris MMT models (A Mk2 T3) and never had any problem driving it

It certainly is a different technique of driving but is very easy to get accustomed to.

Toyota, like many other manufacturers have now gone for the CVT automatic transmission which is much smoother

At last! Aviva engineer approved the repair. Dealer can now get on with the job - they said it would take around 3 weeks

Hope to change the yaris tomorrow with a verso s CVT.

Its back!!!!

After a month and a half of waiting, my precious Prius is back - looks as good as new.

Jemca bodyshop croydon did a fantastic job, although they did take their time as they initially quoted 10 days...but what the heck its back and looking as fabulous as ever!

And boy am I glad to see the back of that MMT yaris.:!Removed!:
