Confirmation On Correct Parts For T-Sport

Hi

New to the forum and new owner of a 2002 T-Sport and absolutely love it.

I need two front tyres, two front discs and pads all round. The parts I intend to buy are, I think, fine but I'd really appreciate a double check please since the descriptions are for the 140 model. Reading the rules I'm not sure if I can link to the products but pasting the below part numbers into the search engine of your choice will bring them up toot sweet.

Black Diamond grooved discs (KBD1124-G12-F) 275 * 25 * 23

Black Diamond pads (PP-472-F, PP-473-R)

Any help would be very appreciated

Welcome to T.O.C.

The pre face lift 140 is the only model to use 255mm front discs. All the other models have 275mm discs fitted as OE.

When buying a pair of new tyres, be sure to fit them on the rear.

Also, if your TS is pre face lift (2002 is change over year), it would make sense to change the lift/flange bolts as the original type can snap and drop inside the engine. The revised ones cost less than £1 each, and it's a straight forward job to replace them.

Thanks for the welcome and the tip on the lift bolts.

I cannot find them in the UK online - is this a job for my local Toyota garage? I've got the part number 90105–06293 and official Toyota name of "rocker shaft set bolts" but still can't find them.

As long as the bolts come out in one piece, anyone who is competent with a spanner will be able to change them to the improved version. Toyota will of course offer to fit them for you, but at labour rates around £100 an hour..it's your call.

I can confirm that you have the correct part number, so a phone call to your nearest Toyota Dealership will get you sorted with the flange bolts.

I thought it would be really easy to find a guide on differentiating a pre and post face lift T-Sport but I can't find one.

Is there an easy way to spot the difference please?

There are a few subtle differences. As standard, a pre face lift TS will have a dynamic front lip with dynamic side skirts, the skirts have a ridge running most of their length. The earlier car should have colour coded head light surrounds too. OE H/U on 00-02 was a Sony with CD/Tape/Tuner. The 52 plate onwards reads Toyota 58806 and is CD/Tuner only. The later cars have lost the amber part of the rear lights, and the front bumper has a front grille like a stretched letter box.

Thanks Scarlett

My side skirts look like this:

They don't look like this:

So I am pre-facelift, right?

Based on what I've read I'll go and check the oil levels now!

Oh and I ordered all the parts. Since the remaining two tyres were not worn, but were budget tyres, I decided to upgrade all four. I might burn a couple of tanks of fuel just to get them bedded in more quickly :yahoo:

Although your second link isn't working, the first does show "dynamic" skirts. So, it would seem you do indeed have a pre face lift :)

Black Diamond are fabulous discs and pads but can be expensive. Have you considered the MTEC drilled and groved discs with Mintex or better Ferodo pads?

Thanks for the confirmation Scarlett.

Thanks for the tip Mistermena. I looked at a whole load of different recommendations, although not that set up. After a while I realised that the only absolute consensus is that OEM discs suck :) I've ordered and paid up now so I'm committed.

Hiya mate,

Yer the OEM discs arn't upto the job! especially on the Avensis models. You'll be very happy with the Black Diamond set up. I looked at them but it was to much for me so I fitted the MTEC and been very happy with them. Let us know how you get on with some pic's if you get a chance.
