Iq Cd Player

Hi

Just purchased an iQ. Been driving it for under a month now.

I owned a VW golf mk5 GTi before going for the iQ. Main reason was cutting fuel costs, insurance and tax. Im really happy with the car, but what can i do with the 'weak' CD player.

I dont like using aux, and you have no control over it and you cant charge it whilst you play.

Is there any way to change the standard CD player to a double din?

Is there any way to install aftermarket ipod socket?

Has anyone done any of this?

Thanks

M.

Hi there

My guess is that the unit is standard Din. The one in mine is the satnav version. Which is a standard dual Din size. Which is useful but really doesnt give any scope for change as although i could change it then i would loose my satnav and bluetooth. In your case, the disc appature is part of the overall styling also i would think the radio display on the LCD screen where the odometer is, is controlled via the CAN bus and ecu so the possibility of intergration is unknown

As an add on

It maybe that the existing unit has a specialist cable to connect the unit to the oddometer display and can be done away with in a new installation. Then all you need is a cable adapter for the joystick on the steering wheel. And speaker intergration. I would look on the net for an alternative cver to replace the existing one that will fit a standard Din. Its easy to take apart and i can help you with that.

I've looked into this, and then got scared by the costs. Have a look at this forum topic - useful info in there:

Hi Matt

I have seen that thread. I have seen the Tns 510 taken from crashed cars on eBay for around £300 to £500. You would then need to get the fitting harness and the top cover and the seat belt lamp assembly. Or just had a thought if you buy the cover and lamp assembly (cant be much money) then you have converted the radio /cd area to double din and you can put what you like in there. Or use a blanking plate if double din is not required.

Thanks for the replies

Im going to think about it, i just read manual and figured out how to turn bas and treb up, no wonder i thought it was a bit weak. so it might be sufficient for now. :)

I didnt realise there was a secret compartment underneath the back seats either.

Oh I forgot to say, in my golf i got an aftermarket ipod adaptor which went into the back of the stereo.

Is it possible with the iQ, as i dont like aux cause it doesnt charge my ipod at the same time.

You can get an 'iPod integration kit' from Toyota, you end up with a iPod plug in one of the spare slots next to the Aux socket - it allows charge and control. Some owners on here have got one fitted, but I can't remember who.

More information can be found on

http://www.toyota-tech.eu and then go to Owner, Onwer Accessory Manuals, Choose IQ, 2008/10 FMC, then IPOD.

Or look at the latest IQ brochure from Toyota UK website.

It says must be fitted in conjunction with the TNS510 (SatNav unit) but you could ask if it works with the standard CD-slot stereo?

Or alternatively , I fitted a Parrot aftermarket bluetooth kit. That came with an iPod / USB / Mp3 connection which also charges your iPod / iPhone. The bluetooth rocker lets you change track, alter volume.

A wiring loom adaptor means you don't have to hack up the car to fit it and it took about 15 minutes with a quite basic set of skills (Although I am prone to 'tinkering').

So. bluetooth, iPod, iPhone, USB, headphone jack seems like a win win IMHO.

Si

Ps costs a hell of a lot less than the Toyota kit and works so much more / better

Main question is if the ipod adaptor needs the TNS510 unit or will the standard cd player take it, cause if so ill probs buy it and fit it myself.

hi mate

The TNS510 satnav unit has a special multi socket in the rear for it when you buy the kit, you get a socket with a cover which goes next to the traction control switch on the centre consul. A lead from it goes up to behind the TNS510 and plugs in. You also get the lead from the iPod to the dedicated socket. On the TNS510 there is an option to choose the iPod . On screen you then get a very similar menu option th choose tracks, artists etc The lead also powers/charges the iPod. Because of the requirement to use a screen for iPod navigation I can't see that it could be used on a standard installation.
