Toyota Extended Warranty And Rear Door Check Straps

The rear passenger door on the RAV is self closing ie won't stay open. When I had the car serviced today I was told that the rear door check straps need replacing at a parts and labour cost of £270. I have a Toyota extended warranty but they told the garage no as it was part of the body work. Unfortunately the extended warranty terms don't seem to appear on a website or I would paste the link but I have the paper version in front of me. Body panels are excluded, consumable items are excluded , door lock adjustments are excluded . I can't see why check straps would be excluded. Perhaps Kingo or someone with experience can give me a steer if I'm flogging a dead horse pursuing the matter or if I should press the matter.

Thanks

Bit bloomin steep for check straps - what's the parts price? Can't think they're difficult to fit.

I'm guessing here but I imagine they are considered to be a wear part and thereby not covered. If they were to break [fail catastrophically] you might have a better argument

If they've worn out through friction wear and you've had the car regularly serviced you could suggest that they have not been lubricated properly but I doubt that argument would get you far

If they are black plastic they are self lubricating.

Buy some straps off Kingo and fit them yourself.

That is scandelous...

Fitting a rear door check strap is a piece of cake... Seriously. 15 mins max and that's cos you waste 10 mins putting the panel poppers back on the right place before refitting. I replaced mine in less than 10 mins.

Check strap is about £50-£60 brand new.

Where you based? Maybe someone who has done it before could lend you a hand.

They are wear and tear items I'm afraid, a new check strap is £74 delivered

Kingo

Thanks all -turns out that the quote was for both sides-one side broken , one side "weak" so that makes labour £270 -150 ish = £120 ish -still expensive and I won't be taking that quote up, but not so outrageous.
