Rav4.2 Rear Aux Power Socket Diy

Fairly easy one this.

I noticed a rear power socket in the parts available for my pre facelift 4.2.

I pulled the trim panel to check and the wires are ready and waiting (you cannot gain access via the top of the wheel arch becuase it's fixed, so don't try to remove that).

The wires were taped with white tape to the loom for the rear lights.

The hole is 25mm diameter.

I ordered 250880297229from eBay seller dhgatestore for £3.99, I made sure it was 25mm by looking at the same item from other sellers, since many other sizes are available. Toyota want about 80E for this part

Size: Barrel inner diameter:2.1cm / 0.83"

Barrel inner length : 3 cm / 1.18"

Outside diameter : 2.5 cm / 0.98"

I had to unscrew and rotate 180 degrees the centre pin; and put a small dogleg bend in the -ve terminal.

Before

After

And connect and test (power is only on with ignition, no fusebox work required :) )

It won't plug in any further because the pins widen but there is plenty of clearance to the wheel arch and plenty of exposed metal in the device anyway.

And finished.

Nice one Bob !! Nice clear write up with good pictures !! Very handy place to have an additional 12V outlet.. Especially for any one carrying one of those tyre repair kits that use an inflater. Or a 12V cool box ...

Wee Charlie.
