Copper Head Gaskets

When the old graphite material-based head gaskets give up the ghost on ST185 GT Fours the standard advice is to use a "steel" gasket (presume it is a multi-layer type?) as used on later ST205's. In America they sell solid copper gaskets and rate them as an equally good cure. Has anyone here bought one or had some cut using laser or water-jet cutting?
