Auris Hsd - Ev Mode Turning Off Too Early

Hi everyone,

My previous car was a Pruis (second generation, from 2008), and I was used to use the EV mode quite often.

As long as I didn't push the accelerator too hard, the EV mode stayed enabled until I reached 50km/h.

With my Auris HSD (2011 model), I find VERY strange that the EV mode is turning off when I reach a lower speed... And that this speed varies!

I always get the message "excessive speed", while speed seems to be very OK.

Sometimes I'm not even allowed to enable EV mode at 30km/h, sometimes it is accepted until 50km/h...

When I'm even EV mode, sometimes it stops at 25km/h, sometimes at 40km/h... and I'm never pushing and the genuine is warm enough.

Can you explain to me the reason behind this?

Welcome to TOC!

My Auris HSD will drop out of EV at about 19 MPH when in a warm-up phase or when the HV Battery state of charge is low. Otherwise it turns off at the higher (published) speed unless you demand excessive power with your right foot.
