Perfectly normal for a diesel to take a while to warm up Paul. All to do with diesel engines being way more thermodynamically efficient than petrol engines. It was a surprise to me too, having never had a diesel before. Just wait 'til the really cold weather

So according to the above claim, a landrover engine must be 1000% thermodynamically efficient cos they take 2 years to warm up. Or are you trying to make excuses for oil burners ? Cmon, tell the truth !

He speaks the truth. A lot of diesels need a heater element in the radiator to warm the car up for the passengers!

Apparently the 4.3 has such a (hardly detectable) device down near the the heater matrix assembly unless Anchorman comes along and contracepts me. Both Ravs frozen solid on Sunday morning, and had to leave early, so took 3 door petrol.....it was at normal operating temp within minutes of leaving driveway....the SR180 takes a woeful time to warm up, and at the price of diesel, ah hate to warm it up standing on the drive, as I cannae go back into house and lock it from outside whilst it ticks over....bummeroony.

Quite right Kev

By the way all its thermal efficiency and yes bothy, the words LR and efficient cannot be used in the same sentance - its against the law!!!

hi Kev

sorry to hear about yrs diesel powered one.

Just a quick brief -- it's understood -- I do not push you or anyone else to follow my way, but:

when owned and ols ford sierra 2,3 diesel -- I have been having the same issues each morning at our winter temps less than zero C and just covered radiator partly remaining several air holes for an coming air passing thru -- after that i ve forgotten this issue at all. the main point is to experimentally to achieve the balance on all loads of the engine and prevent overheating. The problem is even though your thermostatic valve is in order it passes warm coolant into radiator for cooling but the engine can not maintain heating balance. Try to help your engine.

Cheers/Igor

Kev, I know your pain :o but I spotted these in a site that was posted up regarding sat nav units - I am very tempted.

Warm Seats.....

I've seen that switch before here at £57/pair.

Or the one with the right switches for a modern toyota at £56.

Of course there is a problem with those kits that Europeans will have, as I have found out from personal experience. Can you see what it is?

Gus

Not wishing to speak for Kev [couldn't master the accent or idiom anyway  ]

but......... the matrix works fine in the 4.3 D4D - once the engine has warmed up.

Being a diesel this takes a few miles on a really cold morning.

There is a supplementary electric heater which kicks in for demisting until there is enough heat to make the cabin heater effective. Us oil burning types have to be pretty hardy when the ambient temperature drops. :canadian:

Well I'll go to the bottom or our stairs, never knew that, I just thought it took/felt like 10 miles to warm up on a warmish day, 20 miles when it was cold.

Gus

just looked at the manual, no mention of the supplementry heater, mind you it does talk about a power heater, which looks like a nice option.

Nope been all through the book no mention of a supplmental heater, so gurus how do you start this heater, when you need it?

From memory [there's a laugh] I think you just need to demand some heat from the Aircon when the engine is cold and it will cut in until the engine reaches working temp and then automatically cut out.................

Eloquently explained by our resident college lecher....sorry, lecturer, Gus.....I was blissfully unaware of its existification, don't know how to work it but think Davrav may just have explained it, but would give my right buttock for heated seats in the winter. Ten miles ma bahooky.....longer than that.

The heated seats in the last RAV were wonderful and seemed to make the whole car feel warm.

I think the chances of me having another RAV are quite high.

It would have to be a very low mileage same version as I had last if anybody spots one (Not black)

I remember all the trying to talk you out of selling your Rav, and all we needed to do was talk about heated seats

So I take it the replacement needs to

1. have heated seats

2. not be astral black

I suppose I miss my last RAV which is the nicest car I've ever driven. It was way over what I need but I'm working so what the heck.

If I go back it will be the model that was built between April and June 2010 (just gets the 5 year warranty) and if it is in Tidal Blue, better still;
