hi first posting .we have had our 2litre diesel auris 2007 for 2 years.and have had noisy rear brakes in reverse .run out of fuel gauge at half .new engine due to carbon build up we are fed up !!! what have other members problems ?

Sorry to hear your problems to be fair the brake noise is common on the Auris in particular try greasing the rear pads.

Many diesels are high maintenance regardles of your car so dont be disapointed.

To avoid carbon build up use a decent brand fuel Shell, BP, Total etc I always avoid supermarket fuels some may disagree but having said that I havent had any engine issues.

Clean the EGR Valve on your annual service, and once the engine is warmed up on a clear road when safe to do so go through your engine rpm to clear the soot and carbon build up, diesel engines are not suited for short journeys because they need a good warm up in order to keep the engine running well. If your doing short journeys switch to a smaller petrol engine to achieve the same economy.

Agree with the above modern diesel engines do not like short journeys especially if you have a Particulate /soot filter fitted. If you cannot change to petrol then give it a good blast weekly along a dual carriageway once a week for 15mins or least till the engine gets nice and hot to burn off the deposits or soot filter.
