Prius Comes 27Th In Rac Future Car Challenge

The RAC Future Car Challenge took place last Saturday. The idea was to drive from Brighton to London using the minimum amount of energy. The two Plug-In Prii, driven by Toyota GB and British Gas, came 27th and 29th respectively. The only Auris in the run followed closely at 31st.

Before you get too depressed by the placing I should explain that the competition was for all sorts of vehicles and included a large number of experimental or newly marketed vehicles, not ones that have been on the roads in some form or other for 10 years.

For the full story look here.

Anybody fancy having a go at it next year?

It would be good if it were just for road going vehicles rather than the weird and oddbod experimental stuff. I mean how does a Nissan Leaf or a PHEV Prius compare to some canvas covered bicycle with an electric motor on it? (for example).

I love the fact the Leaf won. Not a prototype, or a project, or a new technology, but a regular production car, that entered production over a year ago

It's interesting to note that all the vehicles that came above the Prius and Auris were pure electric by the look of it... as soon as petrol enters the equation then our cars are right up there!

(unless I'm reading the results wrong of course - which is always possible....

everything is possible.... I might even learn to type one day..... is it time to go home yet???

Still ahead of the diesels though lads - and while admittedly not knowing much about the other cars ahead of it, the Prius is the chap for an all round package. You could drive the Prius all the way from London to Geneva if you wanted to without any issues - unlike the pure electrics.

And none of diesels reliability issues :yahoo:

It should be to see who could get there the fastest while using the least amount of energy!
