could be fuel filter but had you changed any thing else before it started

since i've had my head gasket changed mine has a "kick" at about 4-5000 revs.

i know thats not a lot of help but i mentioned it due to the high revs part

spark, timing, cap & rotor(if applicable),fuel filter, dirty fuel injectors, bad fuel pump, dirty air filter, bad catalytic converter, bad o2 sensor(s), loss of compression, valves not seating properly, bad valve springs, low tire pressure, bad wheel alignment, bad fuel pressure regulator.

All possible contributors of loss of power.

clutch maybe ?

the guy that said his Rolla kicked at 4,000 thats quite normal its where you hit the power band (max torque/bhp) i've manged to drop my hit down to 3500 giving much more useable power :) :) :)

also you may want to take off your throttle body and clean it out, this will allow proper fuelling and air mixture which helps immensly.
