I have a 52 plate 1.8 VVTi celica. Two weeks ago i went to get in the car and couldnt get in the central locking had not responed to the key i tried in vein for 20mins with both keys to get he caar open i tried manually opening the car which worked but failed to deactivate the alarm therfore when the door was opened the siren went off, even starting the engine didnt stop the siren going off. after some time i managed to stop the siren but the door was then lock the car was in the drive for 12 hours before i could use the key to get in the car. this can happen at any time any where. i had this about 8/9 months ago but the problem seemed to right its self. this is geeting more frequent more often than not i cant seem to lock it on a night. I have been to several places and this is what have been blamed:

* a BT building that was demolished 4 Years ago

* Wifi routers in the street

* electirc pilons (there are none where i live)

* And my window tint on back windows.

toyota have fitted earth to the alarm that is behind dash and center console. but as soon as it was home i was unable to lock it and when i manually did, i remotely couldnt get into it. again it was out of action for nearly 12hrs toyota are at a stuck with it can anyone shed any light on what may be wrong? im at my wits end and i really dont want to disarm the alarm. can someone please help.

Just some general comments...

Firstly, with any electronic problem I would do a reset on the system by disconnecting the Battery negative lead for 30 minutes or so. If you also press the brake pedal with it disconnected that guarantees that any resisdual charge held in any capacitors is removed as it puts the brake light bulbs across the supply. If you do this then you may have to reset the "one touch" on the windows by just holding the window button for 10 seconds or so when fully down and same when fully up.

That may or may not have anything to do with the problem but it removes doubt.

The central locking not responding to the key/s is a specific issue and if the above has no effect then I would say you may well be looking at a faulty receiever/alarm unit in the car.

Interference can happen but it's rare and extremely localised. You might be able to prove this by stopping a few 100 meters from where you normaly park and seeing if the car locks OK first time every time by being in a different location. However if the problem seems to happen at more than one location then I would say almost certainly that you an discount interference and are looking at a problem with the hardware on the car.

I seem to remember that it's normal that when locked with the remote and unlocked with the key manually that the alarm goes off as you have found out. If you lock with the key manually and unlock manually does that set the alarm ? I can't rememeber but don't think it does.
