My Poor Avensis Keyed - Scratch

Hi

I wonder if anyone has experience of this. Someone decided lastnight it would be great to key my car from bonnet and down every panel on the passenger side all the way to the boot while I was in a restaurant ! Great "" :censor: - expensive meal !

At some points the scratches are deep (particularly the bonnet) and then the level of depth varies as the ****er has walked the length of the car, at some point right down to the primer/metal.

Now the question is, do I try and sort this myself, or is a deep scratch just not "doo-able". I went to an auto body shop and they have told me it would show if I tried to do it myself and he quoted me a cash in hand fee of £350 to fill and respray the bonnet and every side panel of the car and new badges.

I took it to my local Toyota dealer, who took photos of it and sent it off to their authorised repairer, they have come back with a quote of circa £1000+. My insurance has a £200 excess, it is protected but not sure if I should use it for this.

My local toyota dealer parts team have the paint and primer in stock for £7 and I wondered if I should try and do it myself (never repaired a deep scratch before myself, but from what i read on the web it talks about using wet and dry sanding and gradually filling the scratch and then doing the primer at the end etc).

I would really appreciate anyones advice on this, if you have ever attempted such a repair etc. I have the man from chisaway franchise coming to look tomorrow for another opinion (have read varied things)

I am based in derby

Thanks

Without being able to see the damage it wouild be difficlult to say if an acceptable DIY repair is possible. But going on your description I doubt it so you are most likely looking at a professional repair.

Lets the Chipsaway franchise have a look and take it from there.

To successfully repir the damage it may involve painting each panel copmpletely and in that case £350 sounds too cheap. If you go for the illegal cash in hand option you may hve no comeback if the work turns out to be of poor quality.

As it is criminal damage did you re[port the incident to the police. Your insureres may expect you to do so if you opt to make a claim.

Wouldn't you have just loved to have seen the little :censor: doing that. I know I would have. But like said that does sound cheap. I think I'd be inclinded to contact the Police and see if they can view any CCTV to try find them, there maybe other CCTV that might over shoot where you were that you could contact. Your NCB is protected so that would be what I'd consider doing. Hope it gets sorted for you mate...

Hi,

The £350 cah job ia from a proper autobidt shop, a

Friend set me up with a friend who works there, but I agree there ia no come back He explained why it needes spraying etc and showed what it would entail.

The problem with insurance is I have been told even of I claim and have protected NCB then I will still get penalised for the claim.

Re the incident, there was a CCTV at the end of the road that was moving around actively ! I called police and got a crime ref Number.

It's lucky I didn't see them doing it, I'd probably be the one in trouble !! I did think about parking there aain tonight and sitting in the back with blacked out windows waiting !! Lol

I'll let you know what chipsaway say.

I have just applied for an insurance quote from

Next month. The claim adds £300 with my existing insurer and £120 with thw cheapest one I can find on a meeekat comparison !! Has anyone ever tried to move insurer after making a claim with a protected NCB, do they still send confirmation of NCB, no silly rules ?

What happens I am lead to believe is you keep your no claims bonus

But the premium goes up to a higher rate

So in theory you just get a discount on a higher starting price

But you then move insurers and hopefully get a cheaper quote

If you get it done at your friend's bodyshop instead of through Toyota, you might invallidate the 12 year paint warranty.

Thanks for replies. Scratchaway say they can sort thenlot for £216. Requiring a sand a repaint and lacquer spray part of Bonnet and can wet n dry and polish sides to airy that bit. Anyone ever used them or know anyone who has ?

Re insurance have established that yep they would load me with a claim but I retain any NCB I had before I came to them.

Thanks
