I Cant Wait For Thursday......whoo

I have been reading this forum (Hybrid), for weeks now, and i am so happy to hear today that my new Auris hybrid T-Spirit, is ready for delivery and i am getting in on Thursday, i am so excited, i just cant wait... it will be a long few days.

I have read all pages and most of the threads on the Hybrid, though most are about the Prius, i have really enjoyed learning about the cars and reading everyones stories.

I chose the Auris over the Prius, as i feel the Prius is just too big for my needs, 80% of the time there is only me in the car, and i dont need large boot space. also i love the shape of the Auris, i chose the white, with privacy glass, and protection pack.

I was worried at first, but have been re-assured by all the positive posts i have read on here, i drive mostly in town, and do 300 miles a week, at the moment i have a Nissan Almera, that costs me £40 per week in fuel, i am hoping to save on fuel in my new car. This car is my first car i have had as a company car, from me signing agreement to delivery will be 3 weeks and 2 days.... i had expected a much longer wait.

I am sure i will be asking lots of questions when i get the car.

Hi Diane,

Welcome to TOC! I've had my HSD just over one year and am still loving it - my wife and I chose the Auris over the Prius for similar reasons.

I hope you enjoy your Auris as much as we love ours - any questions just ask away!

You'll love your new hybrid. They're soo smooth - mine amazes me still, even after 2 years & 60k miles.

(the Prius and the Auris hybrid are virtually identical mechanically, so any thread on one will often apply to the other). Also don't be put off by some of the negatives on this forum. The hybrids are some of Toyotas most reliable cars - and that's saying something. However, they're not perfect and will have the odd niggle (just a lot less niggles than most cars).

To get the best out of your new car you should check your tyre pressures and make sure they're correct. This will allow you to eke out the best mpg's. You will get mid 50's mpg with ease when you first start and before long you'll be getting mid 60's mpg. Which lets face it is bl**dy good.

Welcome on board!

I too went (back) into the company car fold with a Toyota hybrid and it's been great. My fuel bills are less than half what they used to be with my privately owned diesel Jaguar. The taxman does hit us with Benefit In Kind charges :crybaby: (don't forget to tell the tax office your new status) but at least with a hybrid they are much, much less than a diesel. Your wallet will thank you!

Enjoy the car!

Happy motoring with your new car. I have nothing I can add GC has summed up Toyota Hybrids well.

Welcome!

As it is a company car, make sure you make the best use of your tax allowance from day one, it is only a 10% BIK (benefit in kind) so will save you loads on personal tax

Enjoy the car, my Prius which is also new gets 58 MPG without really trying

If you want any accessories, let me know

Kingo

Many thanks for the warm welcome.... I think i am addicted to this site, cant keep away.

One thing i have been wondering, does the Auris come with a spare wheel, or is it just a can of inflator?

Mine came with a Space Saver wheel.

Hello everyone and thanks for the replies.

Well i recieved my Auris Hybrid yesterday, it was supposed to be delivered sometime in the afternoon, as i had booked the afternoon off work. Got a phone call at 10-30 from Toyota and then one just after from driver to say he was outside my house !!!!!! Luckily my husband arrived home at the time and he was able to sign for the car for me. They admitted it was their mistake.

Well now to the car itself.... I took it for a little drive around and wow it seemed so strange from what i am used to, but i do love it, the space inside the car is very decieving, i love lots of things about the car, and i am sure i am going to continue to enjoy it.

I am dissapointed in the radio/CD, which lights up a very old fashioned green (like old cars do), i think a nice blue should have been used to improve the look, i have not really listened to the quality yet.

The car had about a quarter of a tank of fuel in, i went and filled up to the brim and it cost £40, i pressed the trip switch, which cleared the mileage trip - but how do you clear the average MPG figure?

When i got the car it had done 82 miles on clock, the MPG was 41.2, since we have had it that had now gone up to 47.5 we have now drove about 200 miles. I want to know my personal MPG not the delivery drivers too, i have looked through the handbook, but cant find the answer.

Don't worry about it. The Prius is the easiest and most relaxing car I have ever driven, and presumably the Auris HSD is the same. You really don't need to worry about anything beyond what's on the single sheet quick start guide if you don't want to.

Just enjoy it.

I think you are right, reading the full manual i could get all stressed,as it is so technical.....i am going to just enjoy it and worry about things if they happen.

I read the whole manual then by the time I got to the end I'd forgot everything I'd read at the beginning :blink:

Hi , I have a Auris TSpirit too , the way to clear the MPG is to use the DISP button on the steering wheel , to cycle thru to the average MPG figure then hold the DISP button down for a second or two until the display goes to zero , it is the same procedure for resetting the other averages too . The trip button only resets the TRIP A or TRIP B ( you do the same thing hold the button down)

I hope you enjoy your new car which is a bit different to the norm - you may want to look at the thread about preserving your brake discs now that winter is here ..

One thing I forgot to mention is that the average mpg readout is usually 4mpg optimistic so 54mpg is really 50mpg

( which is still pretty good though) there is a free app for the iPhone called Road Trip lite which calculates your averages accurately for you and stores the history of your fill ups .

Thanks for the tips... had the car a full week now and done just about 400 miles from full tank, i am on 2 bars from empty, so i am very happy with that. The average mileage now stands at 52 mpg, i have been driving on eco all week around town, tonight we have drove 60 miles on normal on motorway doing 60+, and the average had climed to 55. I didnt drive but the car did feel like it had more power.

I do understand car is very new and its winter etc - so we will wait and see.

I am very happy with the car, my only niggles are radio lights (old type green colour),and the darkness of the tints - the rear window visibility is quite restricted, but the car does look lovely with the tints, oh well cant have everything!!!!!!!

I assume they used to use green for backlighting because green LED's were very cheap, blue ones were only invented a few years ago and were ferociously expensive. With modern technology you'd imagine they could have backlighting in the car that changed colour to suit the driver. Think some Fords have that ability so why the expensive Toyota's don't is a mystery. We'll have to keep badgering them :) To me though, green backlighting is easier to see than blue...

I've had my Prius for over 6 years now, it's easily the most reliable car I've ever owned. It's had a few recalls and the brake disks had to be skimmed because, apparently, I wasn't braking hard enough (!) and corrosion formed on them. Might be worth taking a look at this thread if you haven't already read it. Just remember to brake reasonably hard occasionally...check behind first!

Yes....your probably right about the cost of blue, the green is not that bad it just reminds me of the old ford radios of years ago. I have read aboutthe issue with brakes, and will remember to brake hard occationally.

I really do love driving the car....even more with each day.
