Can't Unlock My Avensis Without Using Remote

I have a 2002 Avensis 1.8 petrol.

Today, the rubber unlock button on the key has fallen out of the key. I can just about put my little finger in to press the little button underneath, but it's a bit awkward. And when I put the key in the keyhole in the drivers door, it won't unlock. I can lock it by putting the key in, but not unlock it.

Does anybody know how to make it so I can unlock the car by putting the key in the door rather than relying on the remote? I'm just worried that if the Battery goes in the remote that I won't actually be able to unlock my car.

Thanks for the reply. I've actually managed to make a working replacement button with a tiny piece of lego, held in by a wrap of sellotape. Works a treat! However, my original question still applies.

Is there any way I can make sure my key will unlock the car by putting it in the keyhole and turning? As things stand, when the Battery for the remote wears out (as it eventually will), I have no way of gaining access to my car! Like I said, I can lock the car by inserting the key and turning it, but it won't unlock.

You will damage the microswitch on the fob.

buy the button kit.

when you try to lock it, does it click?

or do nothing?
