Gen 2 Display Dimming

I'm puzzled. I acquired my T-Spirit Gen2 in the summer. As far as I can see, the satnav map display doesn't dim automatically at night time. Previous cars I've had with a built in screen do that,(3 x Lexus) as does, of course, a TomTom/Garmin etc.

It seems to me that you can put it into "day mode" and then it stays there all the time, so glaring in the dark, or not put it into day mode and then it dims or not according to whether your lights are on. The issue I have with that is that often I put side lights on during the day in rain or something, but then the map goes dim and you can't see it very well, even at the brightest "dim" setting.

Does it really not know about dawn and dusk, like every other screen I've used?

It doesn't do this automatically. You can press the ODO button on the dash to change the brightness and that's it.

When you say you can't see it during the day when it dims, is it because of reflections and/or daylight glare etc ?

In the US they do a hood for the screen.

It remembers two brightness settings, one for when your headlights are on, and one for when they're off. You can adjust the brightness of each mode using the buttons at the bottom right of the Display screen. The Day Mode button is for if you want your "headlights off" setting even though you've got your headlights on (e.g. they're on because you're in heavy rain but it's actually quite light).

Aha. Now that makes a bit more sense. I shall try that. Thank you.

Not as easy as a proper auto mode, but better than I thought. Ta.

No, it's just a bit dim for my eyes, but useful to know a hood exists. Thanks.

When you turn your headlights on, to get the dash binnacle back up to full brightness and the main screen to full brightness just press the MPH/KMPH switch. This changes the brightness in steps of the speedo and when it's on full brightness the main screen goes to full brightness. Although Night mode colours still apply unless selected on the display.
