Oil Maybe

Hi Guys.

I have had my GEN 2 T Sprirt since 1st Feb this year, pleased with the car, not so with the dealer.

I have been getting approx 50 mpg on average, had the car serviced on the 21st Sept, which I paid for as the dealer had not serviced it before I took delivery, I filled up directly after the service, that tank full gave me 39mpg (what)Went to the loire in May drove 300 miles on half a tank full.

I have the invoice for the service, could I ask PARTS KING if you translate the following,

Y08880-80845 FUEL ECONO E/G £28.14 I take it this is the oil used, can you make anything of it, for me,

before I start another rave at them, the other thing I am starting to worry about, in the morning when I first start up the screen is quite dull, but soon brightens up once the car starts up,they were supposed to have changed the 12 volt Battery when I bought it, or so I was told,I have just read on here how to check the voltage of it, so will now go an try this,I also have a good test meter, cost me £175 that I can check it with, any thoughts please.

The gen2 uses 5w30 oil and not the expensive 0w20 oil required by the gen3. As such isn't susceptible to the mpg issues with different oil. Check it hasn't been over filled though. A little bit doesn't affect things but a lot over can.

Personally I'd check your tyre pressures to make sure the dealer haven't reduced them (Prius tyres run a high psi compared to other cars and some garages think it's wrong and incorrectly reduce them to 30psi). From what you describe I'd double check your 12v Battery. They are smaller on a Prius compared to a 'normal' car as they don't need to crank the engine, however, they have a life of about 5 years/60k miles (generally) and don't give much hint that they're failing. A good way to check is first thing in a morning - don't turn the car into 'Ready' mode but just turn the ignition on, then wind all windows down at the same time and then back up again.

If they're painfully slow but ok when you test this again in Ready mode, then your 12v could be past it. They're not too expensive though. Let us all know how you get on.

08880-80845 is Toyota pack oil, 5w 30 semi synthetic, which is OK for a Gen 2

Hi

Update on the above, I just tried the Battery voltage check as per th video, could not get it to work first time, had a second go, and it worked, the voltage with just the power button on was 11.7 volts, when I powered up the engine it went to 14.7, so its charging ok, maybe the first voltage is because of only a few short runs lately.I was told they had fitted a new Battery when I collected the car on the 1st Feb.

Hi Kingo and Grumps.

Thanks for your input.

I was a bit worried about the oil, so thats ok, they had dropped the tyre pressures, they phoned and told me they could not set them where I wanted, I told them ok,I will sort it when I get the car back, I am now running 42psi front and 40psi rear.I have posted the voltage check.

So what elso could they have done, I am very disappointed with them, I cannot see I am doing anything differant to before the service, I checked the oil level its about 1/2 above full, as it was before they serviced it.

I have just filled up again, so I will keep a check on it and report back

I think your charging voltage may be too high, which could mean that you have a weak 12V Battery. Mine usually charges at 13.8V when the car is in Ready mode. I do notice that the charge voltage on mine varies slightly between 13.6V-13.8V on my ScanGauge 2, where as the MFD Display Check shows a steady 13.8V, but I've assumed both must be getting the same diagnostic data over the CANBus. I should buy or borrow a Digital Volt Meter to verify what they are measuring but there always seems to be something else to pay for and I can't bring myself to buy a cheap, nasty DVM.

Now I dont know anything about the engines or oils for your cars! But I was wondering if this lube can be used ... http://www.opieoils....engine-oil.aspx As I know that the 0W-20 grade is expensive. I use the 5w-30 in my VW Polo TDi

Hi Guys.

A further update, I rang the dealer I bought the car from in Feb this year, and asked one of their Techs If they could tell me if they have any record of a new Battery being fitted before I took delivery of the car, as I was told this had been done, the answer was no, no new Battery has been fitted, so that seems to be the answer to my problem, I guess the battery could be coming onto four year old, I told the Tech guy it seems all I had been told by their sales team was false/B******T, its like I was told the car had been serviced before I took delivery, this also had not been done, I asked the guy if he could get it changed under the warranty, its booked in tomorrow, we will see what happens.

Do you think I should write to Toyota UK about the dealer? as I am not at all pleased with them, all they seem to be interested in, is getting money off me, for stuff they should have taken care of before delivery.

I think you may be a bit optimistic withToyota GB. Your description of the dealer sounds a lot like my experience with Toyota Customer Services. All four dealers, that I have used over time, have been more competent and helpful than Toyota themselves.

Hope you get your new Battery. If the dealer gives you the new Battery I can see no advantage of contacting Toyota UK.

Mines a 2007 on the original Battery. Perhaps I ought to think about changing it hehe!

Your first point of contact with any issue should be via your dealer or supplying garage. Your purchase contract is with the supplying garage NOT TGB. If you did write to Toyota, they would pass it back to the dealer to sort out first. That has nothing to do with passing the buck, but normal due process of law. They will assist where there is a stalemate or where they need to input some consideration but generally, it is your dealer you need to be in touch with

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, not been to well lately.

The dealer checked out the Battery and said it was fine, just needs a charge,I made the comment about the low readout I was getting, and was told give it a good charge it will be ok, maybe lack of use by me although I use the car ever day for a least one short journey, they also offered to wash and vac the car, so the trip was worth while, and peace of mind.
