What The Difference Between The 10K Mile Server And The 20K?

I bought my Yaris new in 2009.

The following year I put it in for the 10k mile service, costing £54 (not inc VAT or parts/lbr).

Today (2011), I put it in for its 20k mile service and it’s no £117.

When I asked about the price increase I got a ambiguous here-there explanation.

So, besides a hole in my pocket, what exactly did I get for paying an extra £63?

Should be in your service booklet what's done, 10k is usually classed as a minor service (oil, filter and visual inspection) and 20k a major service which is more involved

You should have a copy of the service sheet.you can compare the difference what they had done between both services.

Wow. £117 for a 20k mile service....

The same service on the M3 is over £1000!

What do they change on the M3 tho'?

I was just reading through my Yarisisusues' manual and the ONLY thing that is replaced during both services on the D4D is the oil and oil filter!

Everything else is listed as 'Inspection'.

Even on the garage's service sheet things like coolant and such are listed as 'Check and Top Up' as opposed to 'Drain and Replace'.

On the full service they just check more things as far as I can tell... :unsure:

If you want things like brake fluid and gear oil changed, that's always extra. Same with fuel, and air filters (Which sucks; I thought they'd be part of the major service. The panels are only about a tenner! Rather do it myself...!)

Is probably slightly different for petrols since you have spark plugs and stuff to worry about too...?

Engine oil, diff oil, air filters plugs.. usual stuff. Check all suspension bits... the main bit of the cost is checking all the valve clearances as the "M" cars still run shims to cope with the revs/stress. This is why it is a two day service as they have to be checked within a set temperature range!

Things like coolant, brake fluid are set on timed service intervals.... but extra... I have also heard horror stories on the M forums of people looking ath their itemised bill and being charged £45 to "reset service indicator" which is a bit naughty!

If all they are doing is oil and filter change and both services are the same... that is an increase I'd question.. It might only be £63, but it is over 100%!
