Problems With Clutch Plate Jamming

I bought a Toyota Avensis 2.5 years ago from a dealer with mileage of only 4000 miles. Soon after intermittently I found the car would fail to accelerate and few times it stopped in the middle of the road as I joined it from my street. There used to be a burning smell. Did take it to the dealers and let them know but was reassured every time that there was nothing wrong with the car.

Last week while driving in Taunton, I found the car was not accelerating as well as it should. It did not cross my mind until 15 -20 minutes of driving and thinking that the air pressure might be low, and ignoring the burning smell, that the clutch pedal was part jammed close to the floor.

I managed to pull it up and car worked fine though would not give me the same mileage as before.

This Sunday it stopped and when I took it to the dealer I have been told that the whole clutch is worn out and so is the fish plates or ring or what ever they call it.

It was a near miss from accident.

My car has only done 57000 miles

Has anyone else faced similar problems with the 09 model?

Hi,

My story is the clutch failed after 80,000 miles and had it replaced, plus the dual mass flywheel, by toyota at a cost of €2,000. Yes some sickner! And now for the bad news ! Toyota now tell me the clutch is gone again and will need to be replaced. This is after only 30,000 extra miles over two years. Replacement clutches are only guaranteed for 12 months so i will have to pay again. Unbelievable! And yes toyota told me i probably cant drive properly. I have driven for 35 years and never had a clutch fail till now. I have driven a peugeot 405 D over 12 years and 200,000 miles on the same clutch and engine. Wont be giving toyota any more of my money!

Sorry about all the bad news.

Woodie
