Lucida Not Giving Power / More Power

Recommended Posts

I already change the fuel filter and checked the fuel lines. changed/flushed the ATF and thought that the ATF is already bad.

my lucida starts in a click and the idle goes to 800..

after 5mins my rpm goes wild from 800 - 1200 back and forth. it will not go steady for a moment but will not go back to 800 but just 1000rpm without the AC on.

if I will turn on the AC my rmp goes 1400 and will not go down and will try to turn off the AC but rmp will go 1000 - 1200 intermittently. will not go down to 800.

i was almost got into an accident when at an intersection. I stopped because the red light just went on and stepped on the brakes and still on D. the rpm is 800 and suddenly goes up 1200 the bus moved forward in an instant because D is engaged. luckly i was able pressed the brakes and the car infront went out as he saw the bus moved towards his car. its about an inch that i almost bump his car.

from then, I change gears from D to N whenever I stop. T_T . and not enjoying the AT because of the intermittent idling of the bus that goes 800-1200 intermittently.

the lucida goes 800 on the rpm sometimes in week and will not go beyond 1200 but just 1000 if the AC is on but that is like once a week.

it eats more diesel than usual. please help on what i can do.

i could do DIY if given instructions. ^_^ .

I had somthing similar on 1 of my 1st carinas with aircon, the AA guy said it was either an airlock in the coolant or a faulty water temp sensor. Turned out it was neither! Erractic idling caused by an air leak in the system

where you able to resolve the issue on it?

Eventually ! its hard to find an air leak in hoses when the engine is running, one of the small pipes that feeds the throttle body was split at one end the connector was hiding the split but if you put your ear to it you could hear it hissing, I got an orginal part from the main dealer that inculded new clips this sorted it, vacum leaks seem to be a common problem in older cars since the hoses are old and dont form a good seal, a year later the same thing happened again and it was another air leak only this time from the manifold gasket and an orginal part sorted it

btw: even my AC is not on the rpm still goes 800-1200 simultaneously.. just when I turn on the AC then i will not have the 800rpm anymore but just 1000-1200.
is it still the hoses..

is it the the whole vacumm piping that I will be replacing?

No wouldnt imagine so just find the main source of the air leak and repair it, have a look on youtube theres loads of videos about how to find a leak on the cheap, with regards the Aircon: when you press the AC button (in Toyotas anyway) it increases the idle speed of the engine to compensate for the drag the compressor generates when its clutch is engaged, but with the air lock its probabaly after exaggerating the effect due to the idle being so erratic anyway

did not replace any of the vac piping.. unfortunely the bus went a sudden "seizure" yesterday.... 1pm was really hot and traffic.. suddenly there was a ticking sound at the engine as i could hear loud and clear..AC is on.. tick-tick..turn off AC still the ticking went on..then gas pedal was not responding and black smoke at the rear end. checked the temp and it is above the middle of the indicator going up..waaa.. turned off the engine for 5mins AC off.. did not start right away and waited for a couple of mins more. (did traffic, cars honking like crazy..lol) engine engaged and was able to run again. went straight to my cousin, who is a mechanic to diagnose the problem. I did run 10kms more from where i am to his place without any problem but just intermittent power/idling and no AC. the temp went normal too but lotsa smoke. he checked the turbo and said there is oil build up which is visible at the turbo housing. the turbo could just be having a hard time getting air and something is blocking it but did not dismantle the turbo. instead he remove the air filter element and the smoke disappeared with engine power back on. idling stayed 800rpm.

i will be testing the bus while the air filter element is out for week and will update. later this week we will be cleaning the vac. piping and checking the turbo.. will update you guys again.

hi its been awhile. sorry. :(

yesterday I cleaned the EGR, blank the throttle plate, vac pipings are cleaned and the Turbo been rebuild.

Still have the erratic idling everynow and then. Minimal as I could say and not the same as it was before at the moment.

No smoke at the end pipe and got the power but just the erratic idling im worried about.

I really need help on this sir. Any other advice?
