Intermittent Starting Problems

For VIN I got this under the hood on the frame: SB15303N00E047767

I'm still trying to locate the fuel pump

two questions, please

- whether VIN has been written in full and correctly ??? the program does not recognize this VIN;

- now look at the lid of the pump -- you will find several wire connections. one of the bases must be SCV that is in question. Check and clean all connections using fast solvent (wire/varnish friendly). look at this link --http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=87986 --- this is for SCV (our ravers section) -- the idea is very similar even the pump of yours is an old. Investigate the pump from alll sides and find this SCV. All connections must be as clean as possible to prevent an electricity leak.

To clean the SCV can I use WD-40?

have you checked your car for any recalls regarding starting issues?/?/ i had the same problem in the 2.2 which had a recall ,, i changed plugs and starter and problem went away

it is not the injection pump but looks like an inline fuel filter or so.

i recomend you to find unit having for steel tubes connected in its lid on horyzontal and one found -- inspect all electrical connections on it. As a tip - the SCV looks similar to yours on this photo, but might be other design. Cheers/Igor
