I would expect a bit of smoke from a recon engine on first start up, but it should clear quickly, is it still smokey?

Black smoke on a diesel engine is a sign of to much fuel or too little air.

Firts thing to check is the inlet system is connected up correctly with no obvious signs of blockages or leaks, etc.

I am with jamesbelfast on this, It could be a blocked intercooler or trapped/collapsed inlet hose causing overfueling,or pump timing wrong or worst case scenario fuel pump/injectors knackered. :crybaby:

Um, I'm almost too scared to ask this. Did the garage that fitted the engine supply it? If so its their problem to sort.

unfortunatly the garage did not supply the engine BUT i run a small taxi company and the garage do all the servicing on all the cars and trust them compleatly they have found a place that will check the injectors for £50 + VAT so that is my next port of call as they have triple checked thier work will keep everyone posted on the results

can i thank evryone for thier replys

hi mate

when you say "reconditioned" -- what do you mean? Have you a list of jobs performed or bill where the same listed jobs are in?

The idea is even though they have recon the engine but remained the same untouch injectors -- this might be the main problem.

It looks you have an overfueling or (!) late injection timing. Ask them to check with correct timing moment. It couldl be happened just in case they stripped the engine down and missed onetooth on timing gear etec. Cheers/Igor

in case you have collected one motor from so many parts then it was a real risk to miss injection moment adjusting.

cheers/Igor
