D4D Head Gasket Issue

With people reporting being on their 2nd or 3rd replacement short engine, has Toyota actually resolved the cause and is it inevitable that all of our engines will fail at some point ? (I own a 66K T180 not currently showing any issues)

don't think that I've seen any issues reported on the T27 Avensis so possibly they have.

Any Toyota tech. care to comment?

I've got a 2008 2.0 D4D just gone 72k and just diagnosed with head gasket problem. It's never showed any symptoms until around 70k

Sort of, the warranty's only 3yrs and 60k miles. Mines a months past it's 3rd birthday and 72k. So it's not under the normal manufacturers warranty anymore, but I've read about Toyota secretly extending the warranty on certain things like the head gasket to 5yrs and 100k so fingers crossed, the lady at the main dealer has put a claim in to the warranty dept.

Yeah I just did a search and reading through various posts. I've heard various statements about the warranty criteria.

On one hand it's good that Toyota is looking after it's customers and rebuilding/replacing the engines, on the other hand it's not good that it's gone at 70k and even worse if it's going to go again in another 70k or much less in some cases.
