Recall Follow Up

I've had a phone call from my dealer today saying they have been asked by mr T to check the last recall (re the brake master cylinder). I have been told it will only take 10 minutes. I have booked the car in. Has any other owner had this request? I said it seamed strange that the garage was asked to check their own work. I was told that a different mechanic would carry out the check than did the recall.

Cheers JC

It's a quality control check. Mr. T. wants to make sure that their strictly mandated process has been followed correctly by every technician hence the random checks using a different tech. Its all part of their focus on safety and quality. With it being brakes they are keen to prevent any mistakes!!

Hi JC

Yes i had a letter asking me to do much the same as part of their quality control. I had a bit of a rant on here about it something like How can we trust the mechanics to do work on your car correctly when Toyota don't trust them. My thoughts were on safety recall issues, that any work carried out should be overseen and counter signed so not inconveniencing the customer and leaving them with doubt in their mind. Having said that some people on here have had the whole contents of the brake fluid end up on the floor shortly after getting the car back and others saying the brakes are now spongy. I haven't responded to my letter yet as I don't trust them caring for my car whilst its with them. Oh and they offered a fee valet if i take it in

Thanks for the replies. I was beginning to think I may have had a rogue mechanic. I've asked to oversee the inspection as it only takes 10 minutes. I'll have to wait and see if that's ok.

They will probably say" OOOh no sir its health and safety you know" Because in every industry they cover their own a** and wouldn't want you seeing their drop off's

What makes you think you had a rogue mechanic? do you have a problem with the recall then?

David,

No I didn't notice any difference with the brakes. I was told there was nothing wrong with them. What was strange was the gear leaver was twisted around and I think the clutch engages a little higher. Saying that, when anyone else drives your car it always seems a little different.

I'm not up in that area but it is my understanding that on this car the clutch and brake fluid are one and the same. Maybe it was a little low ?

George is probably your man for a good answer on this
