New 07 Avensis Owner - Ipod/sat Nav Info Please!

Afternoon all,

I sold my golf last night and this evening pick up my 07 Toyota Avensis, link below. It's a T3-X D-4D estate and I got it for a fair bit less than asking, retired owner etc.

My link

I'm keen to fit something that enables me to play my ipod in it and possibly control from the console head unit/steering wheel. Does anyone have any recommendations for makes, models that work well with the Avensis?

Finally I'm keen to finally do away with the 'Tom Tom' route of Sat nav and ideally would like to retrofit some kind of standard Toyota Sat Nav. ANy recommendations in this area too?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Sam

the TNS700/B9010 is the Toyota satnav for that model year but honestly you are better off with a Tom Tom.

Update discs are £150, it only does 5 fig postcode search & you can't search whilst moving (big brother Mr T is watching out for you...)

Also, another thing to be aware of is that the D4D can develop a head-gasket problem although the 2.0 seems less prone than the 2.2.

The good news is that Toyota acknowledge this issue & have an unpublicised warranty extension to 7 years/112k miles for it.

The fix involves a new 3/4 engine at a cost of many £1000s to Mr T.

Standard headlights are poor but a change of bulbs to X-treme Power or Nightbreakers will see a marked improvement to light levels within the beam pattern.

Brakes are adequate rather than good. Again this can be improved with non-oem parts.

Oh & welcome to the forum

it's actually not a bad car despite the above comments.

Heidfirst. Thanks for the above. I'll stay with the Tom Tom then! Much appreciated!

Thanks for the H-G issue, 7 yeras gives me 3 more years and 60k miles to find out if it's an issue. Does this warranty still exist if service occurs as a 'specialist' garage?

Any thoughts on the ipod question?

Thanks again.

as long as it has a full service history at decent garages, VAT registered & that all parts/consumables used are of appropriate spec. they don't have to be Toyota dealers albeit Mr T is probably more likely to look favourably if you have been loyal.

No thoughts on the ipod as I don't own 1 & the TNS700 plays MP3s from CD.

I guess in order to have 7 years warranty, you should follow toyota specified services / intervals. Keep all the invoices with you.

As far as ipod is concerned, yes you can have toyota original kit. PM part kingo to have the price.

There are aftermarket kits available too.

See this link for all types.

Infact, I am also going to fit one in my car soon but to work with iPhone. I am going to fit Brodit pro clip with holder for cable attachment so that my iPhone can sit directy on it. And cable would be the one going directly to stereo, so that I can use steering wheel controls.

Here is the link of brodit pro clip.

Brodit Pro Clip.

All in all, it will cost around approx. 160 to have all this fitted in my car.

If you dont mind, share with us, which kit will you go for.

Hello Sam and welcome to the forum, not much to add from the other comments but from "your link" it looks like a very good buy even at the asking price so good luck with it anyway.

Regards ... Pete.

Thanks Pete, I picked it up for £5.7k.......

Thanks Sam.What's the consensus on the Toyota original kit? Do you have a link to this parts person/dealer?

Thanks for the further links. I guess all I really want is the connection from the back of the headunit (I guess it won't go from the front or usb etc?) and can happily place the ipod in the drinks holder etc. The brodit kit does look good mind..... maybe my wife as an iPhone user will want this version!?!

Thanks guys :)

Contact parts-king by

Kingoooooo

Send him pm to get the price. you dont have aux in option. If you are after only aux in (cannot operate ipod with steering), you can do followings (cheapest to expensive)

1- Cassete adapter

2- Fm modulator

3- aux -in kit (search fleaby and its about 30-35)

However if you would like to control your ipod/ iPhone, then go for ipod / iPhone kit.

I picked the car up on Friday and it's an absolute pleasure to drive. Feels solid and isn't too sluggish. Nice little cockpit too!

Thanks Sam. I definitely don't want the cassette route, not least because I don't have a cassette deck. I also don't want the FM module due to it dropping off. Therefore, I think the below may be what you are referring to? Just needs plugging into the back then directly into the ipod? Is everything included in this 'ad'? Apologies, my 'ICE' isn't great! Thanks :)

Congrats on getting the car. And best of luck.

Just wondering what is the point of having this kit if you cannot use the controls of your steering. Well choice is yours. I think the one which comes with ipod / iPhone wire is for 60 pounds, which is twice the price, but you will be getting steering remote controls.

Cheers Sam, that would be the ideal. Do you have any links with the ones for sale with ipod/iphone wire? Many thanks
