Tire Pressure Monitoring System(Orange)

Recommended Posts

Posted

Have found another unit which can be mounted out of site and speaks alarm conditions and with a remote button you can get it to speak out the status of the pressure and temperature of each wheel.

David

That sounds a good idea, with another display to look at, you might start taking your eyes off the road far too often looking at it. How much does it cost?

And that position is not visible from the sitting position. It would have to be on the gear change consul There is depth. Just got to find 298 other punters now

Marcos,

I have taken the Orange unit apart as you wanted to feed the unit other than by the USB socket on the side. After removing the four screws, the back comes off and the circuit board can easily be taken out, On the other side of the board you will see 2 copper circle pads, One is marked, VCC, you need to connect 12volt positive on there and the other one is marked Gnd 2, and you need to connect the 12volt negative..You could make a small hole in the back of the case and put say a Red and Black wire through and solder Red to VCC and Black to Gnd2. Black would go to the chassis of your car and the Red you should solder an in line fuse of say 2amps (probably get an in line fuse holder from your car accessory shop) Then feed it to an switched live feed in the car. You can use the wires that feed the Aux socket. Its easy to get to by pulling a few panels off. You can scotch connect the wires. Or you could connect to wherever your guy fitted it to.The other thing you have to do is solder a wire to the centre of the copper pad marked aerial.and feed that out the back of the the unit as well. Make that wire about 12 inches long and hide it in the plastic body work.If you have trouble picking up the signal make the aerial wire longer. Test reception before mounting the receiver unit. Simples.

David, what shall I say, many thanks. Your instructions are easy to follow. Will try to "modify" my unit this week. I hope you are happy with the gadget.

Thanks again for your help.

hi again to everybody and a happy new year!

David I would like to ask you if you installed the TPMS in your iQ already..? any pics..? thank you for your help through these forums!

Cheers, Marcos

In case anyone is interested in the "Tyrepal" one , I fitted it a couple of weeks ago and it does everything it says on the tin.

Took about 10 minutes to get it fitted, monitor and sensors, and up and running and seems to be very accurate.

Not everyone here apparently likes how the monitor looks but it suits the funky style of the IQ instrument layout and goes with my other "extra" gauges quite well so I am happy with it.

The main thing is to know what the tyre pressures are up to!

Just had a look at that Tyrepal and whilst it looks ok, there's no way I could have the sensors replacing the valve caps! The little :censor: around where I live would have them off within seconds!

Yes, it very much depends on where you are and where you leave your car.

The valve sensors do have a locking ring arrangement and are quite small anyway, but I mainly use the car in effectively rural conditions only during the day, and my house has a long drive up to it so casual passers-by with light fingers are not a problem.

Not so far anyway, but I thought I would take the risk!

So 2 months later I have found a place for it courtesy of Taz as I saw where his Air suspension display has been fitted. had a look and got to work with the stanley knife. I sandwiched the top and bottom halves between the hole i cut in the gear consul. There wasn't room to take the special mini usb cable in the socket, so i cut it off and hard wired it through the back cover to the circuit board. I have used the existing lead for convenience as it has the aerial along side the power cables. The cable is then taken inside the cover, past the linkage to the front and is fed via a 2 amp fuse to the back of the AUX socket so all cables are out of site. One of the things i noticed with the unit is that on power up it gives a deafening beep.I had a look at the sounder, (you can see it as a white square) on the pic's. It has 2 small holes on the side so I melted them over with the soldering iron. That seemed to quay it down a bit. Pics so far will finish it tomorrow, snow stopped play.

That looks neat David. I will have to check it out the next time I see you.

I still have not put on the chrome registration surrounds, but I was hoping you would do the camera when I do. It's been too cold to do anything and I have just noticed its snowing again.

No problem with the camera Marc and the DRL's I have got for you. Maybe next month when its a bit warmer.

Here is the finished thing.Works a treat. and very neat. No wires visible. As yu can see had to remove the plastic crossbar because of the depth of the unit but it didn't do much anyway.

Oh Dear, OH Dear I can see a major problem Marcos The display is green!!!!!!!!!!! Question Does the LED segments change to say Red when there is a problem or does another set light up in a different colour underneath? and has it got screws in it to take the case apart?

Cheers

David

This one has blue segments, David.......! No need for screwdriver and soldering work....Seems a bit "cheap" though....

I do remember looking at that one but wasn't happy with the shape and size of it. just been out to measure where i have put mine.I think you would be hard pushed to get it in the same location. Also its 17mm deep. which may not be possible. I may be a bit fussy thats why i have only fitted it now.Have to say it works well and did infact alarm first thing this morning when passenger front dropped a pound to 29 and it bleeped and went red.

Is it a lot larger than the one you have.

Posted

Not a lot, about 10mm each way but it is deeper. I am quite close to the mounting clips.
