Hi everyone,

After having had read all your experiences and funs with Toyota MPV I am tempted and buying one with God willing in early April 2004.

However I was shocked that my current insurer Churchill would not be insuring this (1995 M TOYOTA LUCIDA 2.2 TURBO DIESEL AUTO 4 Door MPV) vehicle because it is an import one!!! Well is it not most of them are imports any way???

Could anyone help me with this what to do? Which is the cheapest insurer?

Thank you.

P.S. since import car seems to have not good reputations in UK what to look for during buying?

1995 M TOYOTA LUCIDA 2.2 TURBO DIESEL AUTO 4 Door MPV

METALLIC GREEN, Central Locking, Electric Windows, Sunroof, Electric Sunroof, Electric Mirrors, ABS, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Alloy Wheels, TOYOTA LUCIDA J-TOP VERSION, 2.2 TURBO DIESEL, AUTO, LTD EDITION, HIGH ROOF, POWER STEERING DUAL AIR CON, 8 SEATER WITH SWIVEL SEATS, FULLY LOADED, TWIN SUN ROOFS, COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY INCLUDED,

Does this car sound good to you??? In terms of what is included what is not? Many many many thanks.

the best insurer is the one that will insure you for the least amount of money....

unfortunately there's no black and white answer to the question, similar to : how long is a piece of string?

it's something you've just got to do for yourself, trial & error...

sorry m8, all i could recomend is to try tesco's and norwich union

I was with peoples choice for my last car, when I told them I was interested in a Estima/Lucida, they said they would need a CAT 2 alarm and then the insurance would have been over £500 :censor:

So I looked on line and found that direct line were wiling to insure it no probs, the trouble was I couldn't do it on-line cos I had my bike written off last May and although I had won the battle, there was nothing on-line to say that, so leaving it a bit as I always do, as I was walking to the place to pick up the car after being dropped off I got insured over the mobile phone by Direct-line for just over £320 fully-comp, paid by plastic, turned up and drove away.

I will shop around next year but I don't think I will get it much cheaper

Thank you very much for the advice. I also find them the cheapest. I will be buying this MPV for £4500. Is it a good buy then? It should have about 60K mile. Thank you.

I insure with Tesco's. Direct line were comparable but no coutesey car if it's in the shop. It's about £600 fully comp protected with road side assisstance.

I paid 7K for an M plate '95 model a year ago and prices in the east midlands don't seem to have dropped as they are still fore-courting at around these prices.

Mine has electric door closer on the sliding door and no J top. I also had to pay extra for a 12 month warranty. So this appears a good buy.

Check it out thouroughly though. Is it a private sale?

I would recommend a thourough inspection by a mechanic. RAC do the job for about £80 I think.

Tesco.com were far the best quote for me also, I was insured with Morethan but they wouldn't insure an under 30 on an Estima.

Local broker had quoted inexcess of £1100 !

Tesco's price was £380 I'm 29 with full no claims and an SP30 on my leicence.

Thank you for everyone who has contributed to my questions especially to big Ed. It has ever been soo helpful and comforting. 1995 Lucida M reg will come with 6 month warranty. Therefore I am hopping that the dealer is confident enough in his vehicle to give this peace of mind guaranty free. It is included in the sale price of £4500. He also promised to do cam belt change and regular service before the complete of the sale. All he can not guaranty is the mileage! Because apparently Japanese service history is bit different than UK at least it is what I am told.
