Installation Of Aftermarket Side Steps - Request

Hi,

Firstly, hello, i'm new around here as we only picked up the Rav4 T180(57 plate) last week. Been a member of the SXOC/pistonheads and MPSOC for several years and im impressed with the level of info on here. Already had a good read through and will been cleaning my EGR valve at the weekend lol.

Right, Ive searched but couldnt find any info. I've bought some aftermarket side steps from eBay for the Rav but they dont appear to come with instructions. All 6 brackets are different and I have no idea what they may bolt onto. Has anyone got these side steps/running boards and would be kind enough to tell me what goes where / take a pic under there car and post it for me?

This is the kit i bought : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-RAV4-RAV-4-SIDE-STEPS-RUNNING-BOARDS-BARS-PAIR-/230651790670?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b3eb054e

Any help is much appreciated,

AB

Hi Andrew, first and foremost a very warm welcome to the club.:thumbsup:

Did you buy from the people mentioned in your post or were they used?

If new it seems most unusual for them not to give some info as to the mounting.Have you contacted them about this?

Maybe it was an omission on their part.

I also see both you and the seller are in Lancs, maybe a visit or a phone call might be helpful especially if you happen to mention that you will be looking for other add-ons later and if they are local say why should I go further afield for them.

B) B) B)

I have heard from a friend of a friend that there are certain members who might be willing to,shall we say,add weight, to back you up on this if all else fails!!!

:D :D :D

Hi Andrew and wecome,

The original eBay listing states "instructions by email only..."....easy to miss that....? Also it should be noted that OEM side steps are sometimes not interchangeable for Ravs with and without the flared arches you have on your T180....JUST MAKE SURE THAT THESE COPIES YOU HAVE BOUGHT ALLOW FOR SAID WHEEL ARCH EXTENDIFICATORS....just came up in conversation with another new member recently, Anchorchappy......

Big Kev

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have emailed the seller (it was the one in the link) and asked about the absence of instructions, here is his response (this is a new item btw)

We dont supply the item with fitting instructions but i have managed to find you some, please note these arent for these particular steps and are just

provided as a guide.

please find attached.

He helpfully then attached some instructions for some completely different items with differnt brackets lol.

The sellers offices are only 5 miles away and I have NO problem calling round for a chat :) Looking at them and as has been said the T180 arch extension issue I may just push for a refund.

Just to be clear though, this thread was intended to see if people had these steps fitted or knew how they fitted - bot as an eBay vendetta.

Oh, just noticed the "instructions by email only line", cheers Kev, that has been added since i emailed them (15:10 in fact).

KanuLondon, Thanks for the post, I read one of your posts yesterday about X3 type side steps and that there are 2 variations for with/without mouldings. Have you got any pics on here o fyuor side steps fitted and which model do you have (im presuming the with/without mouldings is the wheel arch extentions or am i being stupid?)

I will pm kingo, cheers for that.

Hi guys, right I have returned the side steps from eBay and have found some genuine toyota ones BUT............. (sorry guys lol)

The Part no. is PZ415-X2904-00 (which from what i can find out is for cars without side mouldings)

and I need PZ415-X2903-00

BUT.....The seller tells me they came off a Rav with said mouldings so my question is do they/will they fit mine? Does anyone have a contact that could check this for me (Kingo is on his holidays for 2 weeks)?

Thanks in advance and cheers for the replies so far, i really am impressed with the attitude, friendliness and usefulness of this forum.

From Toyota AIM site:

Model Year 11/2008 on

PZ415-X2903-00 With Overfender

PZ415-X2904-00 Without Overfender

I doubt they would make two versions if they were interchangable

Cheers anchorman but the ones you found are the same part number - x2904. But they say t180, Sr180.

Best give Parklands a call to clarify..............

Already have done and they didnt think the overfenders were an issue, they have gone off to check and will phone me back.

Edit : The plot thickens, Parklands doublechecked the item code and made some calls and apparently they will fit a T180 even though they arent listed for my vehicle. Hmm, clear as mud lol

Andrew, if you look at the drawings on page 3 of the attached PDF you will see that the front and back mouldings are slightly different to take account of the 'overfenders' on the T180.

Yeah, the Devil's in the detail.

I seem to remember that a reputedly large Scotsman had a similar problem with mudflaps off e-bay for his SR180..........

....a minor error in the detail, I would concede, Davrav....still got said fludmaps (fronts/backs) in stock, but no fittings, so if somebody has still got all the clips and bolts (and no overfenders) they can be had for a charitable sum.....

Right guys, been to look at these x2904 that I found for sale and it turns out they are modify-able, just a plastic cut out needs to be trimmed. The guy selling them works for toyota so I have a new purchase and will update once fitted or with egg on my face lol

Final update, I trimmed the plastic with a dremel, crossed my fingers and braved the weather to fit these this morning. The results are successful and they fit perfectly.

Thank you all for your input for my first post and look forward to helping others in the future.
