Tyres: Inflated Prices?

Due to my own incompetence I had to replace a NSR tyre (I kerbed it parking and left a 2" bit of sidewall flapping around... )

Got an original fit Michelin Premacy HP 215/45R17 fitted for... wait for it... £196!!!!!!!!!! (National Tyres).

Had to get the new tyre next day and they were only local dealer to do this - Kwik Fit couldn't get one and ATS wanted 4 days...

I feel ripped off (and poor)

You can get sme great bargains on new and part worn tyres on eBay.but you still have to get them fitted and balanced.

This may well include a disposal charge for the old tyre.It all adds up.

PS.

i would not consider a s/hand tyre myself.

What price for safety? I would never consider a second hand tyre for our car and I think Michelin are the best tyres. I must admit it pays to shop around. Mr Ts prices seem quite competitive from what I am told.

Tyre prices do seem to have gone up; I had a set of 4 EcoContact 3's fitted for something like £55 a wheel all-in back in march, but I recently had to replace my off-side front due to a slow puncture.

Took it in to be repaired but the tyre place said they couldn't as it turned out there were three nails stuck in it!

The same tyre cost me £67 - ~£10 up in less than a year!

I'm now very glad I listened to the all-knowing madasafish bowdown.gif when he was warning about the price of rubber going up due to all the oil stuff going on and changed my tyres back then

But £196 for one tyre?! Youch... My sympathies!

This is why I love having 14" rims on my Yaris - If I had 15" rims the tyre price almost doubles!

Just looked on http://www.f1autocentres.co.uk for the Primacy tyres and noticed that Michelin now do the Alpin LRR winter tyre in the 215/45R17 size.

Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 87H - Info >>

Cheaper at F1 tyres (£173).

Tyre prices have risen approx 20% due to sterling devaluation plus another 10% for oil price plus 3% for VAT...

Had the same hassle myself last year. The Toyota dealer was cheapest for the Primacy - £165
