Auris T180

Hi,

I have owned a Auris T180 for a couple of months now, and love it. The only thing is I notice a vibration through the car on my feet through the pedals around 70mph to 80mph. I initially thought it was a wheel alignment and balancing issue, and so got it sorted at the local garage. Sadly, I did not notice any difference after that was done. I guess my question is, is this normal for the car and model?, or is that a more sinister problem. This is my first diesel car, and maybe it is just me being paranoid.

The car is still in warranty, so I can always take it back.

Also sorry, if this post or similar post has been put up before, I did search the forums, but could not find anything.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Sounds like u have a flat spot on one of your alloys or maybe a tyre out of shape . Try swapping the front and rear wheels around to c if the shake goes away

Does the vibration remain the same if you get up to speed and then coast so that the engine revs drop to idle. Try it with clutch just dipped in and also in neutral. Usual safety warnings apply.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick replies, I have tried getting the car up to speed and then coast, and the vibration is still there. I am wondering if it is just me, due to my lack of driving diesels. Maybe I am treating the auris like a civic type r, and to be honest, it is just as quick, but with a totally different feel.

Very hard to say without experiencing it and it may well be normal for the diesel. Anything out of balance wheel wise or even driveshafts and the like would be felt through the steering. If it's engine/gearbox related then the vibration would change when coasting and you rev the engine.

Suppose the real answer to put your mind at rest is to ask to try another.

Right,

Been on the phone to Toyota and booked it in (they need it for a whole day!). Women was a bity shirty on the phone as I mentioned the issue only occurs between 70 and 80 mph, she informed that that was breaking the law due to the speed limits, and that her technicians will not be driving at that speed! I simply replied that trust me it happens and not to drive it at that speed, but most importantly get it fixed.

Will let you know out come.

Thanks

you cant diag a fault with out feeling/testing the fault so if they are not allowed to drive that fast then the diag will be the car is fine....as the fault might not be visable

If the car is capable of doing 130 mph, as advertised by the manufacturer, then they have a responsibility to respond to your complaint of a fault occuring at upto that speed, if the car cut out at 120mph, i would expect them to fix it. They got to give you what you paid for.

no they dont the legal speed limit is 70mph.....

Hello mr vw i have a veron with a fault and while in germany i was doing 201mph when i heard a buffering type noise but only at that speed....

no problem sir we'll sent a tec out and road test it straight away......lol

anything over 70 is illegal although we all do it....but i will not do that in a customers car and i will not do it for my work either im not risking points and a fine for a employer and they dont expect us too what we do is get the customer to take us out at that speed and point the noise out...

You seem to be saying toyotas warranty is not valid if the fault is generated at over 70mph, that could not legally be the case. If i had a fault developing over 70mph it looks like i would need to get my solicitor in action. I dont care how toyota do it, take it to a test track, but they have to fix it.

Hey Demondubs,

Check out my topic. Topic

I think you're not alone with the problem. I'd be great to find some answer... My mechanic said, it could be a worn gear in the front differential, or something like that.

Greetings,

MT

no what im saying is if you have a fault above the speed limit then you drive and demo the fault with the tec....that way if you get caught speeding its your licence and not the tecs why should we risk our licence?and a test track come on how many dealers do you know that have one of them???but if you have a fault at illegal speeds then you the customer drives and demo's the fault at my work....its the same if i come to your house to pic up your car if your tyres are illegal im not driving it no place....as its us the drivers of your car that get the greef

Hi,

Right, Toyota looked at it, and promptly stopped when they said that the Tred on all 4 wheels was 3/4mm. Problem being that this level of Tred is close to being illegal, and so can't truely diagnose the issue. Good thing is that they said there is a problem, as from the initial road test, they could feel the vibration.

Now where my rant began was that I only brought the car a couple of months ago and it was sold to me being fully road legal. I know the tyres are close, but not to look at the car and want me to buy 4 new tyres at £130 a time, this close to Christmas is a joke. I won't go into other private details but my wife is at the local hospital every day due to our daughter being poorly, and so the car is needed every day in full working condition.

I promptly kicked off at the garage and explained the situation and how crap I thought they had been, as the warrantee will kick in if required to fix the problem, after the tyres were changed. So after alot of discussion, with general managers etc...etc...they have offered to meet us half way and pay for x2 of the tyres if we buy the other ones.

I am hopeful that this might fix the problem, based on the main mechanic looking at my car saying that he thought the calibration of one of my tyres at the back was out?

I will keep you posted on what happens.

  • 2 weeks later...

Right,

Four new tyres later and road tested, the issue has gone (fingers crossed). Apparently from the mechanic who worked on my car, one of my tyres were 'catterated', causing vibration and road noise.

Hopefully now I can enjoy the car again.
