Hi, ive recently bought a celica gt4 and it has been sat for around a year, it was starting up fine but if it was left it would cut out. I know that fuel can go stale but i do not know how long it takes. and if the fuel was stale could this be the reason that it is cuting out? thanks :)

Fuel losses ron rating as it ages, so yeah it goes stale (plus absorbs moisture if it can).

Try filling it up with some V-Power, clean all the plugs, filter, maf (reset ecu after), then get it started. Once running, just keep enough throttle on so that the car keeps going and as it warms up add a little throttle. Once its a little wamr start giving it some good revs, as that should help clean any muck in the system out.

If it's been stood for a year an Oil change might be worth doing ASAP.

Fuel does drop in RON value but it should still run, even if a bit rough under load. As you're putting it under load have you checked the fuel filter, pump etc. If you can drain the fuel out and put in a gallon of good stuff that will be cheaper than topping up with another 5-6 gallons.
