i posted this in the audio section but thought i would probably get better feed back in this forum! sorry

is it possible to have 2 headunits runnin in a 93 mr2, wired up so there is some kind of link and not so that when one switches on the other switches off???

just wondering as i have a kenwood cd and was considering the possibility of a kenwood mini-disc as i can get hold of one fairly cheap. i use mini-discs uite alot and use cd's more, but having both would really suit me, any advice would be a great help. thanks.

Mike.

you can .. but you need to splice all of the connectors in the back ..

How about a MD changer? Or sell the CD and get a CD/MD double din unit ..

You'll have to splie every wire and splice the second connector in .. should be okay to have both active together though ..

it can be done, mine came with 2 units, a cd and tape they were connected by just one cable, they must've been specially designed to be like that as the cd player had no other connectors except the cable that went into the tape unit. they were jap spec and the cd player wouldn't accept cds so i chucked them. not really much help am i?

Though it could be done by splicing the wires, there is a possibility that both units will not work together in this way, it is possible that when mixed, the two audio signals are incompatible (due to different phases etc.) Additionally, you can technically send voltage back up into one or the other units IC Amp, which is not a good thing and can actually overload and burn out the chip (this has happened to me in the past!).

Set up two head units properly you would need some sort of switchover unit, which would use the appropriate diodes to stop voltages from each device going in the wrong direction. TBH it's probably not worth it in the end.

You would be better off getting an MP3 CD player that accepts CDR's and maybe even CDRW's. These can be bought for around the £100 mark now.

Hmmm thought about this myself dont know about turning one unit off and the other firing up sounds like a nightmare to me :ffs: lol.

But you could make sure one of the units has an auxialry input then you can run daisy chain from the preouts of the one unit going into the aux input of the other you may loose some sound quality and you will need both units on if you want to use the unit without the aux input but it will work :bookworm:

hope this helps

Ah... Good point, didn't think of that! However, one more thing to bear in mind, you must only connect a line out to an aux input i.e. a line out being an output that is not amplified. If you connect the amplified wires to Aux at best you will get loads of distortion at worst you'll blow up one or both head units!

I did say that Dame but mabe in a bit techy terms

you can run daisy chain from the preouts of the one unit going into the aux input
preout pre amplified output, so sorry about that

if you have trouble getting a unit with aux in then you could also use a FM modulator or I do believe there is a kit that wires into the cd changer controls to give you aux in but u may need professional help (medical not electrical) All these use Pre amplified outputs (standard now on good quality units) not the speaker outputs you will conect the Speakers to the unit that has the aux in.

hope this helps more
