Hi

OK, I know I should wear my seat belt, so please don't give me any stick. how do I 'disarm' the beep beep beep, that then goes ballistic for what seems like ages before it stops. that method many have posted where you turn on ignition, push a few buttons, click in seat belt doesn't work on mine.

There must be a relay that runs it.

Anyone know.

Wear your seatbelt! Thats the only sensible way to disable the beeper. As far as I'm concerned, using any workaround is asking for trouble :nono: so I'm glad to hear the workaround hasn't worked for you.

My aunt witnessed an accident recently, 2 cars collided and one flipped up in the air and landed on its roof, and the front was torn off the other car. Luckily the people were able to get out of their cars without serious injuries. They would have been out therought their windscreens if they had been the 'no seatbelt' type. My aunt was nearby and her car was hit by debris, luckily she was ok.

What harm is there in wearing your seatbelt? None. But you could get plenty of harm by not wearing it.

Just wear your seatbelt, thats what its there for.

Hi Lorna

Just say you 'don't know' I don't need a lecture. If I kill myself that's down to me. Always wear my belt when others are with me.

Sorry but if you want to drive without a seatbelt, seems you do need a lecture.

Just get an old seatbelt buckle + stick it in the empty socket, but you should of course wear your seatbelt, Stew

careful- there is a procedure whereby you can get an exemptio from wearing a seatbelt from your doctor. I know cos I have a seatbelt exemption. I have a serious medical (physical) condition which means if the normal car seatbelt (you know - the lap and cross belt) is worn by me and I hit an object/ come to a very sudden stop then the belt will kill me - I basically will bleed to death before an ambulance even leaves the depot.

So I take a risk.. its a gamble where the odds are stacked in my favour of living vs a smashed face. So I go with no seatbelt. Its my wish backed by my GP and unfortunately not recognised by airlines who believe my dead body floating through air in a crash may harm other airline passengers but then not many survive in an airline crash anyway.

I am paying quite a lot of money to get my number 1 RAV modified to be able to provide safety protection whnich means the removal of the mechanical airbag; the removal of the standard seatbelts and the installation of a cage system which will provide a full 8 point harness system should I wish to wear it, and I will.

If kids have to sit in special kids car seats, suited to their age/size, and if they have to have at least a 4 point buckle system, then why on earth are we kidding ourselves on that a 3 point seatbelt system wil;l actually work????

Always be careful and not make generalistic comments I have found.

sdorry Rambler... just had to ask - do you wear a seatbelt on yer bike? I mean, you must be able to get up to 30mph??

Me? Lesser of evils. Once I have number 1 RAV finished, then number 2 will be getting the full harness treatment too. Needless to say the landrover already has a full harness but that tends to be used more to pull the thing. Our 1997 tipper truck has no belts.

A friend recently witnessed a crash where the car toppled right over and skidded along on its roof. The airbag never went off and do you think the belts helped ? maybe but not a lot.

The buzzer disable method that is on these forums works for me, but you have to do it just right. Took me 5 attempts before It worked.

I'm devising a 2 point harness for use on bar stools due to the high number of fatalities when folk fall off the stool, drunk. The stool may fall over but the person is left hanging by their neck from the bar glass rack

I can understand why people want to disable that buzzer.........I have done mine.

Having said that I never drive without a seatbelt on.

There were occasions when it annoyed the hell out of me, such as at the end of a journey when reversing down the drive and the passenger has just removed their belt to get out of the car.

Even when the buzzer is disabled you still have the "slightly less annoying" flashing light on the dash to remind you.

Hi

I've tried the 'method' until I'm blue in the face, slow fast, nothing happens. I have an 06 x3 diesel.

Only the dealer can turn off a 4.3 buzzer. I like mine, it really gets on the nerves of a numpty passenger who seems to thing pulling the belt out and not fastening it is satisfactory and then after about 20 seconds - man, it goes nuts.

This is the procedure I used on my 4.2 rav and it worked to the letter.

Turn off seat belt beeps

OK, it took me several unsuccessful attempts, then I got it thumbsup.gif

So it goes like that:

1. Turn ignition on and switch to ODO

2. Turn ignition OFF

3. Turn ignition ON again (before 5 seconds have passed from the time you turned it off)

4. Press the Trip reset button and hold it like this for 10 seconds.

5. Without releasing the reset button, fasten your seat belt.

6. Release the reset button w/o unfastening your seat belt. The Display will now show "B-ON"

7. Press the reset button again - it's now changed to "B-OFF"

Drive off - seat belt warning is not gonna beep again, till you turn it on! (Please drive safely and ALWAYS wear your seat belts!)

Hi Bothy

Well......on the bike,i wear crash hat, high vis top & two red l e d lights on seat stem ( one flashing & one ' on ') ,on handle bars, again two white l e d lights, again ( one flashing & one ' on ' ) ,then a head torch just to see where i want to look at night.

Plus on the rear of the bikes frame, there are two strips of high vis tape for good measure !.....yep,you can see me from a mile off, with drivers on country lanes around here.

I'm taking no chances at all....i like being seen  ,the amount of folk i see around on bikes with dull lighting & no high vis clothing..idiots,sometimes even worse,no lights & no high vis :ffs:

IF i see them when driving i illuminate them my lights, just to make the point !,or if i'm on the bike, tell them to get some lights....for their own safety.

That normally results in me getting an insult

And yes...i can reach 30.....down hill..great fun
