hey can anyone suggest anything. i had to have a new exhaust back box fitted a couple of weeks ago and my engine management light came on four days after it was fitted. I went to use my car one morning and as i was reversing the car died on me ( I didn't stall it). i was told it might be the lamber sensor, but two days after it was switched off and the sensor was cleaned the car died on me again as i was reversing???????? :censor:

Is the engine hot or cold when it's stalling? Stalling when cold won't be due to the lambda sensor. That thing is only used by the ECU when it's hot. More likely to be a leaking exhaust!

If it's stalling when hot, you might need to get the sensor replaced but get everything else checked as well. Lambda sensors are frequently the first thing to indicate problems since they're in the firing line of all those hot gases...

Here's my opinion on cleaning lambda sensors (and it is only an opinion)...

I wouldn't let anyone near my car who suggested cleaning a lambda sensor. If it's faulty, just replace it. That thing is in an exhaust stream, running at upwards of 600 degrees Centigrade. The only thing surviving on the sensor at that temperature is going to be carbon and you're not getting that off without damaging the sensor. You can forget about using fluids to clean it, they'll just clog the thing up rendering it useless! I suppose you could try heating the tip with a blowtorch and hope to dislodge some of the carbon when it's glowing but is it worth the effort and risk of damage?
