Replacing Center Console?

Hi all,

I have been a bit away for some time, mostly due to work... Been driving over 3700 miles in the last few months... not in my prius though... but a pickup :( and been a bit worked up about the flooding here in this area.. all good now :)

Any way I was wondering if it was possible to change the center console from the boring CD player to the nifty touch screen version on the Gen3, I have been trying to search on the prius chat and google, but it came up blank.. does any one know if it's possible, or is there many other add on electronics that needs to be installed?

I found that my phone menu in the car has plenty of additional options, including voice replies, but once I'm finished playing with the menus, or adding numbers, the voice disappears and are replaced with a biip... so I assume that the car can do more from the factory than it lets me do.

Anyone been tinkering with their Gen3 or found a nice article online somewhere?

It is possible to swap the boring gen3 CD player for a nifty aftermarket factory look touch screen unit (and add a backup camera).

You need to have a look at this thread.

And this one.

Unfortunately, the gen3 head units are not symmetrical so you need to get a RHD unit for a UK prius. Most of the factory look aftermarket units like Rosen, Ottonavi and Flyaudio are for LHD prii (USA, Europe) and don't fit a UK prius.

You can also fit a generic 2din unit.

Have a look at this thread...

Nifty :) thanks, since it looks like most of them are Chinese made, it will make it much more easy to get it into Thailand (No tax hehe)

I will start browsing for a replacement unit, and also check with Toyota if the warranty will expire in case I change the unit.

Didn't realise you are in Thailand but they have RHD prius as well so the information should still be good.

Yup, here we also drive the same side as the UK, hence why I joined up with the forum, since there is only one in Thai language, and my skills there are not impressive.
