Just had a look at the website - saw there was another (older) RAV at £6500 - any good?

02/52 TOYOTA RAV4 D-4D GX 5 Door S/Wagon -£6500.00

In Silver metallic with Grey trim, only 65000 miles, Full service history, full workshop check, new brake discs and pads, roof bars, alloy wheels, towbar and electrics, air conditioning, electric windows, electric mirrors, CD player / radio, spare wheel cover, remote locking, 2 keys plus spare key, exceptionally clean for the age.

David

David thanks for talking the time to look at the website. I have already seen this RAV 4 and although it's a local car it's not in that good a condition and it has a tow bar on it. I can't swear but up here 1/3rd of the population is in farming and, rather than towing a caravan, it's more than likey towed big steel containers containg loads of sheep and/or beef cattle to the slaughter house. With me living on the main road (in England we'd call it a country lane!) I see loads and loads of animals going to market or, more usually, the slaughter house. The locals don't tow caravans just animals! ;)

Orkney has the biggest concentration of animals per acre of land than anywhere else in the World and also methane gas too!

People will always say this or that car is to expensive,, The wrong colour ,wrong spec,,ect ect.. Best one is..... Well I paid only ......... If the car is absolutely mint and You want and can afford it the just buy it !!! Only You My Friend can examine the car up close.. It looks spot on but they all do in the pictures !!

But if its a cracker just buy it and be happy !!............

Thanks mate for all the help. One guy has said about another RAV4 at the same garage (one of the two on the island for sale - same garage - house and farm actually!) The mileage is 20,000 less but it is not in as good a condition and has signs of pulling heavy loads. The original RAV 4 in the post has no signs of towing anything and I can't see the tow bar or where it's been even. The mileage is 85,000 miles because the car has just arrived here from down south and has obviously been used for driving distances. I REALLY only want a car to go back and forth to Kirkwall to do the weeks shopping (a distance of approx 30 miles maximum a week) I've no idea of the average milage before the engine goes but if anyone can tell me if it would be OK for the shopping that would be great. If I got this car it would more than likey be my last which is a bit sad :crybaby: I'm a bit bemused by the guy who's selling it as he did say he'd knock £100 off last two weeks ago but now say's he would knock off £1,050.00 which is a big jump in discount. He said it passed it's MOT fine except for two break pipes. I've checked the car out and all comes back OK re stolen, right off etc. Although it has had three owners from new.

If you or anyone else has any thoughts please lob them my way!

Thanks again!

Hiya Mike, I purchased a model almost identical to this a couple of months ago, XT4, leather seats..etc immaculate throughout with 12 month ticket, full 1 year warrenty (It had had a recent service and the Cam belt changed at 75000m) So far (touch wood) this diesel has been fantastic and with perm 4WD is a joy to drive! It is a lot better than my previous petrol Honda CRV in every way! I am averaging about 42mpg which is not bad at all for this type of vehicle! (Honda was 28mpg) small pic below of my motor taken when changing the light bulbs to Xenon ones!

Hope this helps mate?... Now the bad news for you...I paid £5200 with 95000 on the clock!!!

Steve

Thanks for the post Steve. It looks a great car. I'm getting rather depressed on here to be honest as most of the guys seem to be from Cheshire, Worcestershire etc. I was born in Ironbridge, Shropshire and would give both legs to be back 'home' The folk up here are all related and only REALLY friendly if you're a visitor and they are charging your credit card. Like the locals say 'you have to have three generations in the KIRKYARD before you'll be considered anything like a local. I hate it and the weather is even worst. 4 seasons in a day every day is just too much especially in Summer. Thanks again for the post and all the best.

Brother in law and family live in orkney - st Margarets hope. Where r u at?

Never been myself - don't really fancy having to walk at a 45 degree angle. :-)

Is your brother in law called Wayne by any chance? I actually live on the biggest road on Orkney (a country lane down south) and I'm in Stenness with no houses in sight and Stenness Loch, The Ring of Brodgar, The Stones of Stenness and Maes Howe right in front of the house. Also have a couple of acres of lawn to cut all the time and it's made me want to live in a high rise flat. I used to like grass too!

Mike it,s a bit like that overhere on the IOM (Clany). I,ve been overhere for 5 years and believe it or not my best friends are Manxies. The diehard Manxies still resent the presence of Come-overs, but we now out number them. The biggest influx in recent years has been Eastern Europeans, who are not liked by the locals at all. As for 2 Rav,s for sale we have only 2 for sale overhere and they are not much kop.

Regards Clare
