Dumb Question Alert

Hey All,

This is gonna sound really dumb but... how do you check the level of your water? I've got a 94 NA and I know where the entry point is but the "reservoir" is hidden down the side of the engine, so how do you know if it's full/empty/just right???

Is it just a case of taking the top off the cap and seeing if there is any water attached to the end of the rubber hose? or is there a better way?

Cheers.

open the pressure cap, not on the reservoir but before it, if youi can see red coolant your ok, if not top up with red ethylene glycol coolant from Halfords / toyota wherever as long as its red ethylene glycol :D

According to the workshop manual, it doesn't have to be red, just eylene glycole mixed according to the manufacturer's insuructions.

There is a white plastic expansion tank with a black lid. Remove this it has a sort of plastic gauge on it. As long as the collent is well up the gauge you should be fine. It shouldn't be a murky brown colour either. If unsure, change it. Not quite so important now we're entering summer, but a good idea, esp. if the anti corrosive properties have significantly diminished.
