Anyone Used Mr Clutch Before?

Hi,

The clutch is going on my 53' Avensis 1.8 petrol and I'm trying to find the best place to get it replaced in the Bristol area.

I've phoned a few local independents in Yate and the cheapest was £315+VAT.

I also tried Mr Clutch in Bristol and they came in at £299 all in, including a 2 year/20000 miles warranty.

But the online reviews of Mr Clutch vary to say the least, with some people saying they received good service and others saying avoid them like the plague.

I was just wondering if anyone here has used them and what your experience has been?

Also, if i went down the route of buying the parts and using an independent, do i just buy a clutch kit or do i need anything else?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mr Clutch are supposedly clutch specialists but anecdotally they're as variable as any garage TBH.

I was impressed you got a low quote; The quote for my Yaris was actually above the average I'd had at £600-something

If you have a mech you trust and they aren't that much more then that'd be the better option, otherwise Mr Clutch are as good (or bad) as any other franchise garage.

If you get the parts yourself, you just need to get the parts you want them to change, but typically that will be the clutch kit (Plate, cover/spring and bearing) and sometimes the slave cylinder.

Maybe the hydraulic fluid too if they don't have the right stuff.

Thanks, I'm thinking that might be the best option, just for my own peace of mind than anything else.

I used Mr Clutch for a gearbox replacement in my wife's Zafira .... I normally shy away from fast fit centres, but the gearbox is a just to big for me on my driveway, and they were recommended by a few people.

To be honest, I was really impressed... good price, and job done ok ... but like any garage, you can get bad mechanics... (even goes for the dealers to!)

Thanks for letting me know.

I've decided to use First Toyota Specialist in Bristol to change the clutch.

I have it booked in for Monday and it will cost around £360 inc VAT using original Toyota clutch.

I'd be interested if anyone has any experience with them.

I used them once when the clutch went on a fiesta I once had. They were the cheapest quote around, they picked the car up from my place of work and dropped it back off too. Had no problems with clutch till the day I sold the car. This was ten years ago though.

They've been around for years, which is quite good in this day and age.

Had a cluth done and dual mass flywheel on avensis d4d 2003 and was done well from mr clutch in southend on sea. the price was a hefty £900 but the car has done 40000 miles and still going strong, Toyota had replaced the clutch previously and didn't put back together properly and charged the previous owner for the same job at 70000 miles £1400.

So I would say you take a gamble these days no matter where you go. Only got done at a garage as didn't have time wwith work etc.But glad they did a good job where I went.
