Tear And Wear...

Does anybody have the same...??? I saw at least one guy who had a wear through the floormat.

My mat has been worn through just after 17.000 mile ...

Ànd your heel of your foot, does not touch the special plastic piece in it.... On the next mat I will make a special place on the mat where I can rest my heel.

But first I will try and repair this hole... Patch in a piece of resistance carpet / plastic in a nice manner over this hole. Or under it???

Further... the other day I heard a kind of "SNAPP" noise.. when I got in the car....turns out that one of the floormat-holders has broke...it's made of hard plastic....

It's a piece of plastic that stick in the metal transfers beem... under the chair... and it holds the floormat in it's place.

Does anyone know how to replace this... without unbolting the whole chair and having to remove all of the floor-carpeting and what else???

David?? Any ideas...

The plastic clip just snaps in and out of the hole in the floor, they are available from your dealer at a very small cost

Kingo

Hey Peter. When our car arrived, I didn't notice them immediately, and there I was moving my clunky feet about and snap! WTF! Then I noticed these wierd looking plastic things stuck out from the front seat. See, I have never seen anything like this in a car before -having bought older cars in the past. Both in the drivers footwell have broken and I was wondering too about cost and how to replace. Must get some, and spares if cheap enough. Kingo reckons they are cheap, so we will see. Actually, you see how much your's are in Euros and I'll see about mine in Sterling, and I don't mean that place in Scotland. B)

The ends of those clips are oval. Push in to oval slot beneath seat then turn a quarter turn to lock in place. I bought a pack of 4 from Kingo a few weeks ago for less than a fiver.

Peter, I have the same issue with my 'other' car (Seat Leon), where I rest my right foot now has a nice little dent in the under foam.

But of more concern is that fact you have a pedal missing. ;)

Thanks for that. I think they are less likely to get broken when attached to mats, even with my clunky booted feet.

I have the rubber mats that are heavy duty & are still clipped it place. So no wear and tear at all.

Okay, so, I got some of those carpet/rubber mat clips today and fitted them. Perfick! Cheap too at £1.99 from William A. Lewis of Shrewsbury, now my local dealer as I only live 15 or more miles away, well, a few more than 15 miles. I want to mention here about a service they have, because I don't know if it's expensive or not. Nope, I'll make a new thread for that one. Apple-Ogies.

Thanks guys,

I an thinking about.. putting in a metal (Aluminum) piece, over the hole.. to resist the wear... it's in a kind of bent aeria.. So I will have to pre-bend it a little...

When done I will exhibit some photos..

By the way ...

Now when I started to repair the mat ... it turns out that it is really very very worn down and very flabby....

A new mat from MrT costs between the € 45 en the € 75. Depends on the kind of quality you want.

I found it very pricey.... AND I only have interest in the left one (you get left and right when you buy from MrT).

Started the following different approach ...

Fortunately ...

I had a leftover mat from the T. Verso from my wife... brand new and very firm... It was the right one from a new set we got when we exchanged this car for our older Verso.

On this I drew the align-out and started to cut the shape out with the help of a decouple-saw.

Here the preliminary result ... because I still want a Toyota Logo on it.

Left the original and Right the cut-out... (it still has to be trimmed and put in some holes for the "hold-rings"...

DSC00263.jpg

Trimming is done with a burner... it's like asphalt-rubber-nylonish....

Here the done version....

BTW ALL the photo's are here:

Ive done pretty much 30k in my IQ and the drivers side mat is slightly worn but not all the way through or so thin you can see through it! Although I dont usually wear trainers, I have very thin pumps/flats I wear which must not cause as much damage I suppose?!

Hee Sally... naaaice... love your car BTW...

I always wear Nike's airMAX shoes... so the heel should be soft... But the original mat is really very thin and softish...

The place where they put the Toyota Logo... is a place where you never ever put your feet on...

Maybe the fact having an CVT makes a difference ... on the other hand... when having a normal clutch, your foot goes in moving motion all the time...

Last Friday they where finally in, by Toyota. The clips to hold the floor mats..

I had ordered 2 pieces... And to our surprize (even Toyota was flabbergasted :-))... there were 2 sets of 4!!! each.

So they give you 4 per set (=8 pieces) for the price of € 5,05... How about that...

Good deal on the mat clips there Peter. Like your 'can-do' attitude with everything that wants fixing or changing on your car. You and David (Tarquin) could go into business together. Very ingeneous cutting up the old mat. I bought rubber mats for our iQ, but they were cheap and nasty type as already the right hole for the foot mat clip has split. I had to trim them to fit the footwell -safety- properly when installed. Now I have to re-trim as the gap between the mat-clip-holes is wider than the positions of where the two mat-clips fit. I'm gonna get searching for a new, stronger set.

Thanks Bob, but David is way out of my league... he does such good things electronically... Thing is I try to do things good and cheap and have fun with the car... Like Davis... but David goes further...

Like the Dutch Smart Club, it's soo good if people share there findings... With the Smart it's specially the very old models.. My Smart is from 2001 and is a 4/2 450... and has some typical flaws... like it has "Thrust-Plus" ... this is a sideway sensor to react when the car tends to slip... it throttles the power down... really terrible in snow...

There problems can be dealt with by Mercedes, but the cost can be very high.

Fortunately there are about 3-4 Smart Specialists in Holland, spread over the country, that do exactly the same for way less en way better. They really love the little car.

With one of them I come with my iQ, to do some work on it... like the springrubbers...

I do hope that in the long run the same will come for the iQ.... Lots of members sharing the information....

And finding repair sites that are better and cheaper.... There comes a time that the car runs out of it's warranty...

The rubber mat thing: Good to hear your frustration... the peace I had was the leftover of the passenger side of a mat-set for the Verso.. so big enough.

Another thing...

In the area of west Holland (Beverwijk, near IJmuiden) there is an official Black Market (called the "Beverwijkse Bazar)... they sell all (all) the cheap China stuff directly to you...

Also a lot of Turkish shops that sell electronics / smart-phones and stuff.. Watches and jewelery .... Also I bye my Nikes there... way cheaper.

Sometimes car stuff is available.... lights / horns / exhausts / mats (yes) / trimming stuff / wheels ... etc..
