Hello, The Check Engine Warning light came on '08 Auris 2.0D4D 55k but the car seems to be running fine, however it does seem to idle slightly faster than before. Any ideas what it could be? before I spend a small fortune on something i don't need.

To avoid paying for a garage diagnostics to tell you the fault, do you have breakdown cover?

If so call them and they usualy will be able to tell you what the fault is for free will save you about £30-40 when you call them out

Common issue could be EGR Valve clogged, or an exhaust sensor, or with the weather possibly coolant sensor

Higher idle rpm in this weather is usual as its cold modern cars dont have a choke the ECU adjusts accordingly.

Keep us posted...

Cheers

The car was seemed to be running fine so i disconnected the negative Battery terminal for 20mins and when I reconnected the engine check warning was gone. So far it hasn't returned so although a good thing I am still confused as to what it could be.

  • 2 months later...

Hi. I have a similar problem. Few months ago I had my service check done. Two days ago the "engine check" light appeared on my dashboard, all of a sudden, on a straight way. I didn't notice any kind of abnormality, no strange noises, anything like this.

To be honest, I don't really trust the authorized service, cause they tend to make the car owners pay for something they don't need. I'm wondering if this kind of things are covered with warranty? (She's 2.5 years old). I didn't try to disconnect the Battery yet. Did the problem come back or the warning is still off?

I suffered engine check light and loss of power, got home in "limp home" mode, the following morning when driving to the dealer engine check light was on but car drove fine... I also got a "VSC Fault" on the speedo.

Turns out it was the EGR valve clogged, got stuck open and generated the fault, but the ECU threw a wobbler and recorded the VSC fault also. EGR replced under warranty, VSC checked OK, car back to normal.

It seems the EGR clogged up, then managed to free itself and run ok , which could explain the reasons why your seemed to run fine afterwards... ( I am assuming yours is a diesel...)

DOes the 08 2.0 Diesel Auris have a DPF?

I know that the 2.2 Sr diesel has a DPF but a lot of the 2.0 diesels do not.

If it doesnt have a DPF then the problem is probably a lot cheaper and easier to fix.

If there is a "D-CAT" Badge on the car then yes ( Diesel-CleanAirTechnology) this is Toyota's name for a DPF...
