An Offer From Mr. T On Damaged Alloys

Hi, to anyone who can answer this question -and anyone who can't. In my local dealer's today I noticed a neat little display showing a rather badly damaged alloy that had been cut in two. The damaged side was rather bad, looked like accident damage, but that's not what interested me. The other side had been refurbished. A part of it was painted blue -never mind- and the other in silver. The ad said that for £60 one could have ones damaged wheels repaired and painted in either Silver or Graphite, or any custom colour for £75. This price is 'per wheel.'

The job would take them some time, but if one took their car early in the morning, it would be ready later in the day -I assume later being before closing.

Also, they had a leaflet for 'personalised modding' (like with the Mini, Fiat 500, Citroen DS-3 and so on) your NEW iQ. There were six different styles of leather seats, including some that were black with coloured leather inserts. I couldn't nick one as I was being watched. Perhaps Kingo can supply pictures as I'm sure the Lindop dealers will have the same mini brochure. Also were 'graphics' that could be applied too. I did ask about them and was told that it may be possible at some point in the future that these will become available to 'used' iQ's too.

I really liked the seat design, looked really good. £800 mind you! Ouch!

Re the Wheels.

Are they actually doing it, or is someone coming in to do it?

eg the same Firm that comes to do their Second Hand vehicles being prepared for sale!

You will quite likely find a 'Mobile Wheel Refurbisher' that will come to your home or work place & do your repair/refurbishment at the same price or less.

Cheers George. I'm not too sure as he did not say they got someone in to do the job, however, he did say that if the wheel/s are only light damage they can fix that too and repaint in same colour. Maybe they do get the 'Mobile Wheel Refurbisher' in. My Dad has used of these guys to patch up some scratches on his Merc, but, was not happy at all with the work done. Still, it's another option.

I've had kerbed wheels fixed in the past. They chemically stripped the wheels, then lead filled the missing chunks and filed to match then powder coated.

This was £65 per wheel, and for those around the London/Kent area I'd recommend them. Lepsons.

Hi Bob, did this look like an official Toyota idea? or dealer? I have still not ordered my IQ and am intrigued by the different leathers.

With reference to the alloys another mention for Lepsons in Kent, I had my Peugeot 306 GTI wheels painted anthracite with them a few years back, and they were a lovely finish.

When I bought mine,3 of the wheels had digs out of the alloys and they said they would get them refurbished . It would take a few day which meant I wouldn't be able to pick my car uo til then. So as i was changing the wheels anyway I picked the car up anyway. When I went back a few days later the sales person said if I was to bring the wheels back and drop them off the would honour the refurbishment so thats what i did.So now I have a set of new looking wheels. One of my 18inch alloys bought the kerb in a badly lit car-park and really scuffed it up. cost £76 to refurb. MR T does do a full leather kit although its in plum. I bought one and fitted it and it looks great, really makes the car up market.

My local dealer who supplied my wheels gets a company in kent to do mine .Amazingly they only had one and it name back perfectly matched to the other 3

So, at £60 it would be a small saving, and if you have people you can trust to do a good job, you're going to go back right? I would, even for an extra £20 altogether (x4 wheels).

Well, the wheel refurb/painting thing may be, as George suggested, farmed out to a mobile refurbisher. Sorry, but I didn't ask if it was their people doing the work, I just assumed it would be.

As for the leather seats... The ad was one of their own for people buying a/the new iQ. There were six different styles available and I recall he said £800 for them. It shows (if you get the chance go to a dealer and see) a number of iQ's with 'stickers' on them. Some are okay, and others rather girlie or even naff (no offence girls). The first three sets of seats were all black with sections of colour; Red, Orange and another colour, possibly Blue. One of the sets had a coloured headrest and it had a Black iQ logo on the headrest.

The other three sets of seats were... damn! Sorry, but I have serious memory/recall problems and can't remember at the moment. If I do later, I'll edit this post or something. If I had £800 extra to spend on a new iQ, I would not hesitate. They look really good. The photo's are only small, but you can see them if you wipe the drool off the brochure from looking at them. So, these are official Mr. T. extra's for your new iQ. Also, he said that he believes they will end up as a retrofit for the more elderly iQ's. I just started saving for mine, Black leather with Orange inserts me thinks.

Hmm thought it might be your dealer only, mine seemed to know nothing about it when I phoned him up, he could still only offer the standard black or plum, but then I haven't had much luck with them in general regarding the IQ they seem intent on selling the new Yaris.

My last visit to the dealers had them showing one of the matt black iQ's. Not bad, but I prefered the pearl white next to it.

However I'm still not 100% with the seats, the provide no support when cornering. :(

Think its a catch 22. Reduce the rubber to 35 and lower Handling produces virtually no roll. stay at 65 normal height and need the seat to hold you, You put those LED's in the switches yet?

David, other things keep getting in the way. Mainly the washing drying right where my bench is. :(

I'm not so sure its down to the rubber/suspension. The mothers Citroen C2 has way better seats in it, and still feels a lot slower than the iQ. The lack of seat (read bum) and wide support I think lets it down badly.
