Dodgy Gearbox

hi

i have a 1994 toyota celica st.

it wont stay in 5th gear, it jumps out of gear when i de-excellerant then grinds like hell until i quickly de clutch.

its also started to whine in 2nd and 4th gears.

does anyone know what the problem is?????

Sounds like the spring retaining clips are on their way out (these are used to hold gears in place once selected).

Simple answer - You need a recon or new gearbox.

replace the 5th gear hub and syncro three pins and retainer clips. easy job as you only need the remove end cover of gearbox
