I'm getting ready for the new audio system installation so I decided it was time to upgrade the "Big Three". I ran 0 gauge wire from the alternator to the Battery and from the negative Battery post to the engine and body ground points. The stock Scion wire is really small and doesn't allow for as much current to be passed as I'll need with all the amps installed. By adding the 0 gauge wire it gives a much larger path for the power to run through. My grounding point is also a more solid point than the stock location. From the factory the ground lead connects to a bridge piece above the strut on the driver side. It has to rely on the strength of the weld to flow to the body. I used a grounding point that is on the main body and makes contact directly without any welds. This will provide a path with my less resistance than the stock.

Here are pictures of the stock wire connections...

And the engine block (this location is fine and is where I connected my new 0 gauge wire)...

And the completed project...

I've done this to several of my cars that have had high performance audio systems and it really makes a big difference. More power to the amps means better sound and no dimming of the headlights.

Work has begun on the PowerBass USA audio system in the iQ. The door panels have been removed and will be altered to allow the installation of 6.5", 1" and 8" Speakers. This will involve some bracing and fiberglass work.

The rear seat has been removed to make room for the sub enclosures and the amplifiers. There will be four 10" subs and three amplifiers.

Today a made a floor board for the audio system to sit on. This will be our level starting point for building the sub enclosures.

I installed the XM Satellite radio antenna and receiver.

The RCA dual shielded audio cables were run from the head unit to the rear area as well as the remote wire for the amp turn on.

The 0 gauge wire has been run from the Battery to the circuit breaker and then through the firewall to the rear of the iQ.

Here are some pictures of the progress...

Yes, I have never been able to get more than 32 mpg. Since it's not a daily driver I don't worry about it too much. I'm sure after all the audio is installed it will be even worse.

The Powerbass USA audio system build continues. Gene from X'Quizit Designs did the majority of the work and I'm happy to say I was able to lend him a hand. There was lots of measuring and remeasuring to make sure everything would fit. The layout was changed several times. In the end we used a welded square tube frame for the amp rack and built enclosures for the subs and door Speakers. The door panels presented their own unique difficulties since there is almost no flat surfaces. Gene hand formed the enclosures for the 8 inch mid Speakers from aluminum and then used fiberglass to attach them. The stock locations were used with custom hand made speaker ring spacers and then custom covers were fabricated to blend the enclosure to the door.

The system is not quite complete, we are still going to add two more 8 inch Speakers to the back with custom enclosures and replace the stock rear speakers with 6.5 mids and 1" tweeters.

The iQ was on display at the Powerbass booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Nevada and the system was a hit. I did the demonstration of the sound system for hundreds of people and everyone who heard it was amazed.

There will also be an Audison Bit One added in the next few weeks.

I wish to express my thanks to Powerbass for providing the equipment for this project and to Gene from X'Quizit Designs for all the hours of hard work he put into this build.

Here are some pictures of the build...

The HAOLEBUILT II project was on display in the Powerbass USA booth at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas Nevada January 8 - 11, 2013.

Powerbass sponsored the audio build on the project and I'm happy to report they were very impressed and pleased with the results of the system.

Taz,

That looks an absolutely fantastic job, my favorite part I think are the doors they look better than factory fitted. Really does look brilliant :kewlpics:

And I bet with the tonue cover fitted you wouldn't know it was all installed by the casual observer.

If that was my car, I think I'd be sleeping in that car :)

Thanks Mark. Lots of hard work so far on this ride. With the tinted windows it's almost impossible to see the system and it's parked in the garage at night.

Still more work coming on the audio system, I'll post more pics when It's completed.

Taz There are no words to describe the install. You clearly have very talented people in the US. Quite outstanding.

Thank you David. We were behind schedule getting the final placement amps from the company so we started our last day of work on the install on Sunday morning and didn't stop until 10:30 am on Monday morning. Thirty minutes later I was on the road with the iQ and heading for Vegas. It was a five hour drive in high winds through the desert. No sleep for two days, a deadline to enter the convention center and lots of coffee allowed me to arrive on schedule.

Taz, Absolutely stunning work. I bet the dealer that sold you that car would be so shocked to see what you have done to it. I'm not a great fan of the Super Stereo Sound from such an installation, but that looks so good. I mean, I'm quite happy with the fact I have a CD player in my car... clearly you were not.

:walkman::thumbsup:

I love the work that's been done on your car, so professional. I wouldn't expect the same kind of quality work over here, but then, what do I know? I know that David -Tarquin- does great work, but it seems that over your way, there are people out there waiting to do a professional job that no one has even thought of yet.

I think Mr. T. or where you are, Mr. S. should be notified. You deserve another medal.

Thank you for the high praise Bob. Scion is fully aware of the work done on this iQ. They have been watching all the way.

This audio system would not have been installed if my iQ was a daily driver. Since it's only out for shows and a few joy rides the loss of the back seat and the addition of a system that provides more than enough sound was a no-brainer for me. =)

Looks like you had a great weekend dude. I have to admit, what you have done to your car, to make it a show car, has certainly paid off. At least you could listen to some serious tuneage on the drive over there, and more screens than a TV shop... like I said about the trophies, lots more to come. You may just have to move house after all.

The iQ was involved in a photo shoot last night for Stance Magazine in Japan. Naoki Hiratsuka from mediaG took the photos behind the Work Wheels building in Fountain Valley. I'll post up pics from the magazine when it's published. Here are a few "spy shots" from my point and shoot camera...
