It is determined by whether they are before or after the CAT (bank 1 or bank 2) and whether they are nearest No1 cylinder (sensor 1).

However, take care as the manifold is twisted on a RAV and sensor 1 is nearer the back (gearbox end) of the engine.

See the layout here of the 1AZ-FE engine;

Not much electrically, although the cables are probably marginally different lengths.

Sensor 1 and sensor 2 cannot be mixed as they are different heater resistances.

thanks for this, although what i really need to know is,is there a difference in bank 1 and bank 2 sensor? the reason im asking is because for genuine parts there are 2 different part numbers, how ever for a non genuine part i can only seam to find 1 part number, hope this makes sense.

thanks

oh i see, ive ordered a genuine part but was wondering about non gen parts, they just seam to say top/pre cat sensor so guessing there universal as top left or right, the thing is looking through eBay, people are buying them, so guess there being fitted to theses rav4s as they seam to be a fraction of the price.
